Quick public service announcement for anyone who's been waiting on the spool style ('73+) slant to V8 conversion mounts. They are available again. I ordered these last week '73+ A, B, F, M, J-Body Slant 6 to 273/318 or 340/360 and they showed up today.

Figure on 1970 up with a aluminum body, case, for a 727 to fit behind a slant 6, in taxis, trucks, industrial usage. Before that an adapter was used behind the slant 6, to mate to a V8 727 transmission.

Your 74 will have the spool type motor mounts. You need a 73+ V8 K frame. The only two options were slant six and V8 K frame so any v8 K from an A body will work. You could install an earlier K but would have to get the matching motor mounts. Does your car have a front sway bar?

As long as its a V8 K frame and not a slant six, its simple. (For a 340)You just get a set of 340 or 73+ 360 mounts or you can use 318 mounts but you will have to shim one side with washers. If you have a slant K its going to take some modifications since one mount on a slant sits higher.

My 72 Duster was a slant six with three speed. I converted it to a 360 and 4 speed. The V8 is wider so I cut something like 3/4” off the hollow tube of the torque shaft to fit.
