I have been going through and trying to read as much as I can. Sometimes it’s gets a bit overwhelming with the headers vs manifold debate. Sometimes I just may not be searching in the right threads either I am sure.

I hadn't considered that...that's kind of a good option, especially since the car at present has NO exhaust system, just craptastic headers and glass packs that dump under the seat area.

I have the 340 exhaust manifolds on my car with the Accurate Exhaust head pipes. I have that same oil filter plate without the 90 degree adapter and I have to use a really short oil filter to clear. And I have to unbolt the head pipe to change filters. The filter is a Wix/Napa 1335.

There will always be those that discount the 318. It just didn't have the glory of the 340 because it didn't receive the cams, 4bbl, good manifolds... it was a grocery-getter. But for what the 318 will do, it's worth it. You can get cheap power from a 318. Try buying anything 340 cheaply. :D

What brand of head pipes are you running? I have a 340 on a stand with those manifolds and TTI head pipes. Although I do have the 90* adapter, I could roughly compare since everything is in plain sight. Let me know if you want a picture. :thumbsup:

Exactly. The 440 magnums were under cammed with a 268 degree intake duration from the factory. Not every engine has to wind to 6 or 7k to make decent power for a street motor.

+1 on 340 manifolds and the brake/suspension upgrades. i'd run stock manifolds and use that "header money" in the budget for brakes and suspension.

Over-cams a stroker? I'm 251/[email protected] in my 408 and I'd say I could easily add 10 deg more duration. It is VERY responsive even with a Super Victor intake. The longer stroke tends to eat duration IMO. If I do it over or re-cam it, it will have more duration than what I've got!
