the slinger keeps oil off seal, also, slings oil around timing chain, only oiling it gets, i've ran with out one once, chain had lots of stretch and wear. just food for thought

The timing chain set looks to be an aftermarket one. I don't see any significant slack in the chain, so, if it's a good quality set, I'd reuse it. How many miles are on it?

I disassembled my slant timing cover few months ago. Today at last got time to install new chain and sprochets, gasket, seal, damper, radiator. After everything in place I noticed this damn slinger in the table. This happens when there is much time between disassembly and assembly.. didnot...

yes double pumper. and a/f gets a little lean at wot but not anything crazy. it's around in the like 13s. having slack in the new timing chain i put on makes me suspect. any recommendations on a good timing set to buy that should install with minimal slack? would a gear drive be more precise...

Well of course it's gone. You tightened the bolt down. You better believe it though when it's running, that cam sprocket will probably rock back and forth. That crap wouldn't be in any engine I built. Rock on, brother!

If it was any tighter, I could not install it and that's with aligned hone and decking. Mopars rock!!!

ITS GOT TO BE THE TIMING CHAIN SNAPPED. BRAND NEW CLOYES DOUBLE CHAIN. I MARKED THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WITH A MARKER ON ONE OF THE TEETH. BUMPED THE KEY TWICE. AND IT DIDNT MOVE.
