    Fresh carnage!

I get it works ok. So does no holes in any bolts. Or no drip tray. Ok isn’t good enough when I have to stand behind it. Drilling a hole in a bolt isn’t any harder than drilling a hole in the plate. And it’s not just for gear drives or Chrysler stuff. I put pressurized oil on Chevy’s too...

...you what to do with your engine, it's YOUR engine... That's what I do with mine... And yes, there are very few of the original timing chains left, but if I have an engine with one - it's getting replaced with a double roller ASAP!!! The increase in MPG will pay for the chain soon enough...

    318 LA Rebuild Advice

The timing chain set looks to be an aftermarket one. I don't see any significant slack in the chain, so, if it's a good quality set, I'd reuse it. How many miles are on it?

...with timing, you can check the timing on the starter. This will tell you that the dist is working and timed as well as that the timing chain is in time. Yet another thing, if wiring is a ?, is to simply jumper a lead from the battery to the coil +. Do not leave that there any longer...

440 power gains/ aluminum head advantages?

They make a collar you can put on the distributor shaft that will minimize any upward motion the drive gear might have. After that’s installed, if you still have the timing mark jumping around, it’s likely the loose chain. They’re often not rock steady on a BB, so how much it jumps around and...

Evidently so. It quit running and doesn't operate the rockers or turn the distributor. He said he thinks it's the timing chain. Read the previous page. Stan, you'll get it, buddy. That's what it's all about!

Timing sprocket gear loose against cam key.

Well of course it's gone. You tightened the bolt down. You better believe it though when it's running, that cam sprocket will probably rock back and forth. That crap wouldn't be in any engine I built. Rock on, brother!
