    Think the point is there a way to build a 318 to similar specs as the LS 5.3l and get similar hp and torque, Mainly with similar 217 or 221 cams they used with the 5.3l to get 500 + hp.

    I say build the 318. Terry Brighton racing built a 318 stroker with Trick Flow heads, air gap, Lunati 243/251 VooDoo hydraulic roller cam. Made 535/535. Pretty much equal to 360 strokers give or take a few.

    Since you're pushing the air in, do a mild build 318 and get the combo to work then fix all the errors, then build with a larger engine combo, you will probably save money in the long run.

    You definitely don't need 400 hp to do that. Build a combo that makes peak power around 5000-5500 and pulls to you shift at 5500-6000 rpms think you'll be happy, which be around a 300-350 hp 318 engine or 350-400 hp 360 etc..

    Wasn't made for rpm cause they put a 273 2bbl top end on it, no reason you shouldn't be able to build a 8500rpm monster if you want, the bore is only slightly smaller but also is feeding less displacement.

    To me there's two main way to look at a build, build for X power or Y rpm, to build for X power these engines are generally gonna take the same parts but the 318 needs more rpm gear stall etc.. For Y rpm the 318 gonna make less power but need parts that make less power but probably gonna work...
