Got the little stock bore/stock stroke 318 magnum running a few weeks ago and I have to say that Racer Brown builds the best cams out there, very happy and snappy engine.
Engine Specs:
-Stock pistons flipped w/ stock rods & crank
-Hydraulic roller .565/.565 232-232 @ .050 with a 106 LSA
-Mild home ported magnum heads with stock valve sizes
-Hughes Magnum Springs (P/N HUG 1199)
-Mild ported Professional Products Chinagap intake
-Custom built 900 cfm Thermoquad built by the TQ Guru Ken Manley in Canada
-Will get long tube headers when it goes into the '75 Duster

(P.S. I only ran it for the minute and 16 seconds of the video so no harm done with no radiator setup

Sounds very healthy , with all of the 318 threads here, I'm sure you will be inundated with...I wish you would have dyno tested or how much HP does it make? Good job nonetheless. J.Rob

I plan to have it dyno'd in early September when the next spot is open. I'm curious myself.

Is it a magnum short block ?
Just wondering for cr reasons.

Yessir. 1996 Magnum shortblock. The heads were cut down just a little bit when I took them in to get cleaned (can't remember how much it was a few years ago) so if I took a guess I would say around the 9.5:1 CR area

Sounds good. Jim at Racer Brown is doing a solid roller for my 416 W2 build.

Well, that's going to be a snappy ride! What brand of rollers are you using? Stock type setup with dogbones or aftermarket link lifters?

Just pulled out and thoroughly cleaned the stock lifters. I plan to install a coil kill switch so I can turn the engine over and prime them before firing so I don't beat the heck out of them on startup

I have a 5.2 Magnum shortblock I have been thinking about building to replace a Slant Six in a 72 Demon.
A general consensus is to build a 5.9 or go big and stroke it. I already have 2 cars with mild 318 LA builds which are plenty fun but sometimes I feel the need to go with more, which honestly, I'm really trying to talk myself into it. Other times I want to rebuild and heavily modify the six. Looking at the cost though and seeing your post I see where I can get more with less and have decided to use what I have and build from there. Of course there are questions and the first is.
You mention "Stock pistons flipped" ...what do you mean by that?
Thanks

Don't worry about flipping the pistons, stock pistons had an offset and people use to install them other way around thinking it might pick up power, Engine Masters Show debunked it.

Doesn't take much to make the stock shortblock into a strong performer, 4bbl cam (regrind) headers and. Heads since you don't have any Speed Master with the right rockers to work with magnums (push rod oiling). Should get you into the 400's hp depending on cam.

I do have the old heads, but am looking into others. I have a line on some bare EQ Magnum heads, the B modle which are set up for LA intakes. I was think of using the valves from my old heads and the Hughes 1199 spring kit. Looking at that route by the time I get done, I could pickup a variation off the net, which would need to be "checked" or wait for the Black Friday sale and get some direct from SM. Are they save enough to run "out of the box" or do they need to be "cleaned/checked" too?

I'd check em still no matter what company, you can do it yourself. Mainly checking valve guide clearances and if the valves seal.

Racer Brown is a great company. I think I got my first cam from them about 69 or so. I never had a issue with them.
