I Think I Don't Want These Computers in Cars Anymore

If it's too hard to fix you don't understand it. It's okay to not understand something, but saying it's objectively worse is not true. You can continue to hide in your comfort zone of the past and carry your extra ballast resistor, cap, rotor, ignition module, spark plugs, screwdriver, carb...

I Think I Don't Want These Computers in Cars Anymore

This is basically the rage against things you are unwilling to understand mentality. The cars as they get newer practically scream whats wrong at you. Most failures are pattern failures so once the cars get old every single issue has been seen before and it's just connect the dots. In an extreme...

I Think I Don't Want These Computers in Cars Anymore

Computer controlled vehicles is only basically every car made for the last 35 years, not sure why you'd expect anything different at this point. I'd still argue there are plenty of them that are really easy to work on if you even have to. I have a Cruze I bought new and I won't try to tell you...

I Think I Don't Want These Computers in Cars Anymore

Yeah so 400k is 2 design lifes for a car, so regardless of if its lit up (Sensors can be replaced and they usually aren't too bad), the car still works. Testimate to the design of the car. Electrical systems on anything TIPM days or newer at Chrysler can be a nightmare as they are generally...

I Think I Don't Want These Computers in Cars Anymore

Pre-OBDII cars are much harder to diagnose. As the cars get newer, the self diagnostic gets more advanced. Gotten a little bit ridiculous lately with the gagets, however saying you're better off with a carb car, meaning that you won't have to work on it at all is kinda funny honestly. I know...

Subframe connectors for a driver/cruiser, necessary to weld to floor?

I have the Hotchkis connectors, they can be welded in without pulling the interior, I did it that way. They have some angles cut in them so there is no offset from the front subframe to where the front point is welded in and they have brackets to spread out the load, a good design practice. The...

    ~450hp from stock stroke 340?

My engine has some much lighter custom race-tec pistons and K1 rods which are also lighter. You have to get the rotating weight down to make the power. My camshaft is similar. 9.8:1 CR and Edelbrocks with a valve job and IIRC some minor blending. When it was dyno'd it had a 750 Annular DP and...

    Duster Aftermarket Hood To Demon

you need this one 1970-1972 Dodge Dart / Dart Swinger / 1971-1972 Dodge Demon Fiberglass Hood w/ 4" Hemi Scoop, Based On The Classic LO23 Super Stock Style. (Bolt-On Heavy Duty) - US Body Duster hoods are totally different but a dart hood is the same

And so it begins,,,,,, 5-speed Duster swap!

Not at all. You'll find nothing made like this anywhere. You'll find a lot of C, U, H, I shapes but not this for a reason that its only stiff if it only took load in the driection of the 2" (as if it was a floor joist in a house or something) which this is not doing at all. The tie in to the...

And so it begins,,,,,, 5-speed Duster swap!

Not trying to be mean, but, It's quite weak actually, especially for the thickness of material used. No 3D shape and right angle bends without any gussets or triangulation, There is pretty low torsional stiffness and bending in the transverse direction on the car would be pretty easy. These...

And so it begins,,,,,, 5-speed Duster swap!

Toddron Restorations made it, its for the T56 swap, bottom and top crossmember.

And so it begins,,,,,, 5-speed Duster swap!

Yeah, the floor flexes A LOT. I had the torsion bars backed off, had the car as leveled as possible on the floor before I started cutting. Used the lower crossmember piece to hold the bolt holes all together when I started with the welding of the top piece. I wasn't worried about the car...

6-speed in my case is big. Really big.
  14. goldduster318

And so it begins,,,,,, 5-speed Duster swap!

That has almost no strength at all. The bending direction from the left to right of the car is basically nothing. I can bend 1/4" bar by hand without heating it. You need a 3D shape. This is very stuff. It's made of similar materials but it controls flex and bending in both directions...

    4 speed Trans Tunnel mods

I absolutely don't recommend doing mods and just taking the top of the crossmember out or welding some piece of flat plate, that does absolutely nothing at all. You need a 3D shape line in my car. The car has no stiffness then and its even worse with Torsion Bars. That crossmember is very important.

    Hot Rod Power Tour 2024

I was all packed up, car ready yesterday, felt a little off / malaise during the day yesterday, didn't think too much of it. I went to bed and about an hour later I woke up was up most of the night with a pretty nasty stomach virus. Don't feel too well right now either and can barely eat...

    Hot Rod Power Tour 2024

If a 15" BFG is too much money to drive 1500 miles the car never gets driven at all...like most of them including my neighbor that has 2 GTOs. These are like the "go get ice cream" cars. The Challenger, especially the older ones are basically full size luxury cars with V8s anyway which somehow...

    Hot Rod Power Tour 2024

Thanks! It's easier to build one like mine now than ever. I had to do a bunch of stuff a harder way. Now they sell EFI gas tanks vs my Aeromotive Phantom, easier to use Holley ECUs that are reasonable vs megasquirt, brake kits, steering boxes, wheels, closer "kits" for T56, I have a lot of info...

    Hot Rod Power Tour 2024

Having seen the route of the actual tour this year, its maybe 35% on the freeway. I'm driving 560 miles on Sunday to get to my folks house in the Nashville Metro (3 nights there and 3 on the road), but as you mention, it doesn't matter for me, I can pretty easily cruise at 80 and 2200 rpm so...

    Hot Rod Power Tour 2024

I wish everything wasn't about what was "easier". The whole point of this was to tour modified classic cars even from day 1. The reality is very few people ever look at the new cars, even though there's nothing really wrong with most of them I never bought one because I didn't want to be one of...

    Tornados

This was from yesterday, the left is the RadarOmega app with the box where it says radar indicated and on the right is the text that comes in any app, is broadcast on the NOAA weather radio station, and should be scrolled on the screen on TV which says the source. If they update it it will say...

    COOLING SYSTEM PROBLEM FIXED

Those are cheapo, low-flow fans, and you're expecting the air to make a 90 degree turn right at the back because the shroud has no depth. No idea what the fan setpoint is, but it will spike a few degrees above that point even if it has enough capacity to cool it forever. It won't run right on...

    Hot Rod Power Tour 2024

I'm expecting that there will be a bunch of less than 10 year old Camaros, Mustangs, Challengers, and Chargers there that not many people really look at like many other events.

    Tornados

They're trying to save lives, there's a pretty solid chance based on doppler radar, especially with a hook echo present that there is one trying to drop. In some cases it's night or rain wrapped so seeing it for real is tricky. They actually do have levels... Radar Indicated, Confirmed (Meaning...

Classic auto air install 1970 Duster with 340 and Edebrock Super Victor EFI Manifold

Update, it's all finished, charged up. Was blowing 40 degree air in the outer vent yesterday when it was 75-77 and very humid. I did find it cycles a lot because of the evaporator freeze up switch seems to get tripped a lot in humid temps. There was water condensing on the bottom of the unit...

    Brake boil over

The newer caps with the vents like this - you need some air space for expansion to happen. You don't need the fluid all the way up to the bottom of the openings for the caps. You want at least 10% of the total reservoir volume for air space. But yes, the vents toward the back is very...

    A Body Frame Connectors

Yeah, I can jack up my very well used/high mileage car and the doors open and shut exactly the same and the gaps do not change whatsoever. One of these years I need to actually rebuild the hinges so it's right and fix the solidly welded striker but this car is in the 260-270k mile range as far...

    A Body Frame Connectors

Trust me, there's probably few people on here that did more projects that take patience and pre-planning - MPFI, 6-speed swap, Classic auto air, etc... this one just doesn't seem worth the extra effort compared to the other options. Most of the other frame connectors you just pop the front...

    A Body Frame Connectors

Subframe connectors are great. I don't know that I would suggest putting on the USCT ones unless you're either a masochist or have the car totally blown apart. I have the hotchkis ones and it really stiffened up the car. The door used to rattle on bumps and no longer did immediately after...
