Advice: Solid Roller or Hydraulic Roller for street car

Gearing and your torque converter are your holdup. You already know this. Address that second! Have you addressed your suspension, tires and brakes first? If you can't control or stop your car, you better not go fast. Hydraulic rollers will never rev as high as solid flat tappet. What heads do...

    Best E58 360HP Camshaft....your guesses

. The EH1 was not an E58. It was a modified E58. The EH1 only came out in the LRE. It had a bigger carb than the E58 engines. Where is it written that the 79 LRE used a differant cam? What about the 1980 LRE's that went to Canada?

    318 cam

What exactly do you mean by "how big a cam?" You can put a long duration cam in, but you will loose bottom end torque and gain high RPM power. For that the rest needs to be up to the forces the RPM generate. Rod bolts and valve springs come to mind just off the top. A high lift lobe also...

Valve spring differences between roller cam and flat tappet cam.

I have a 1987 318. The heads I had rebuilt are from an earlier 318. I'm curious if I need to use the stock valvesprings from the roller cam engines. My machinist thought that the factory roller cams are really tame and that the flat tappet spec springs would be fine. What do you all think ?

Engines with lack bottom end power?

Need to watch the David Vizard Powertec 10 Youtube video discussing cam selection and how cam companies get it wrong. His method is the LSA is the input based on cylinder volume divided by intake valve diameter multiplied by 0.91. This is subtracted from 128 for SBC and 127 for SBF. Most...

That is why I specified LA engines. Big blocks and Hemi's also came with solid lifters.

    Stroker advice

Here below is an example of someone thinking his way through a combination, not saying anything directly applies to your build, Not meant as a recipe to follow but a piece of someone redesign a engine driveline combo, just an eg.. to give you kind of an idea what I meant by come up with a gameplan.

    71 up 2.47 to1 and 2.66 to 1

For a streeter, those two boxes are so close, it's hardly worth thinking about. 2.66-1.92-1.40-1.00/ splits of .722-.729-.714 versus 2.47-1.77-1.34-1.00/ splits of .717-.757-.746. This is because, Second gear will get you into speeding territory after about 5.5 seconds, and before you hit...

    HFT vs SFT Cam Identification

I agree the ramps are over well before .050 but it would probably would also be useful to check the duration @ .050 to see if the cam would be effective for his application. It appears that he does not know much about it at all.

Stock 318 2 Barrel Cam Choice

So I recently bought a bone stock '73 318 2 barrel. Since it is going to need to beat up on some stock mustangs from my high school, I am going to do a cam swap and put on a '71 340 4 barrel intake I got with the engine. My question is; since I am only changing the cam and intake, what cam...

Hydraulic roller lifter questions (LA 318)

Yup. You're right. I compared pictures of both and the lifter bores on the LA are a good bit shorter. It's funny though, Comp Cams offers a kit for the Cleveland engines that utilizes the Ford small block spider and dog bones. The lifter bores in those engines are the same as the windsor roller...

Need some advice 318 POLY vs 318 LA

Yeah, I was really posting for those who don't know about all the poly motors. Lotta confusion about fifties Chrysler Corp motors. When I replaced my timing chain, I found out that 56 Plymouth poly motors had a one year only cast iron timing cover, with the water pump sitting higher than later...

Rebuilt 318. Which oil with roller cam.

I am having my 318 rebuilt with new rings, bearings, rods, pistons etc.... The engine will have a roller cam installed and I am wondering if a high zinc oil is still required? The engine will be torque plate honed. From what I have read it should be run in on dino oil but can't see where zinc...

360 heads on a LA 318 vs Magnum heads on a LA 318

To be fair, I'd either run all 3 stock or all 3 fully worked over. Unfortunately, while it would be interesting, the time it would consume, and financing will not allow me to do this kind of test. I'm overloaded with projects...lol

    340 cam in a 318

I used to do it all the time. But, I also added milled 360 heads, TQ, intake, dual exhaust, changed the curve in the distributor, added a windage tray, high pressure oil pump spring, and upped the pressure in the trans. For some reason they'd run like a 72-73 340... There are better cams...

Best Top 10 Bolt Ons For a 318

My theory, assuming its a well used and aged 318 and you probably have to replace or repair these items anyways is as follows: 1. exhaust. 340 hp manifolds or more affordable 360 magnum manifolds, 2.5" dual exhaust, good sounding muffler and depending on your budget H, X pipe . As a near stock...

    340 intake on a 318?

A big port intake on a small port head is a mismatch in my book. The first factory LA 318 4bbl's started in 1978. By then you had lots of smog equipment, different castings, but still, ports that matched. Mild cams, lean burn, thermoquads, mild compression ratios and cams, restrictive exhausts...

    360 vs 383

Where to start... It was a general statement why I would pick a 383 over a 360 having daily driven Factory A-Bodies with a 383 and a 340. The "seems to be a long-standing, common knowledge in a Mopar world" is actually a long standing common misconception. As for the extra weight it really...

    318 power?

Dale, I did not say 302 but did say 5.0. Maybe I should of added 90's Mustangs that had 5.0 badges, dual exhausts, manual transmissions and romping cams. Would also add, I never pushed a run on the streets, so if someone wanted to "HOT DOG" it and it was a safe street I would take them on. Don't...

    340 cam in a 318

That would be a good test. There sure seems to be a lot if negativity about a 318 not being able to handle a 340 cam. No bottom end and at least a converter to make it work. Is it really that big of a pooch from say idle to 3500 rpm or is it just nobody knows how to tune a 2 barrel and...

Need some advice 318 POLY vs 318 LA

Oh LAWD! The timing covers on all the early polys and hemis were just dreadfully HEAVY. Especially the Chrysler Firepower truck motors.
