At WOT and after about 3500 rpm,Jesus A/J you killed me right there....i was thinking to go with a stock replacement 429/444 cam ( 340 c.i ) for this 360 , its a 79 not 89 , comes from a little red express , planning to have a nice cruiser and reliable car , of course i want a bit of power...but what can be the best if i dont want to open the engine , 3.23 / 3.55 / 3.91s with big 295,50r15 ? I dont want a dog , my fantasy is to beat a stock 1971 cuda 340 4 speed , the best that hot rod mag ran was 14.18 e.t. , i want to enter the 13.99s with my car and be reliable as hell !!! AND ON A LOW LOW DOLLAR BUDGET !!!!! AHAHAHAHA
Two 340 factory grinds 1968 4 speed and all rest the other
If im not mistaken it was th 68 hot manual cam and the regular 429/430 and 444 lift , that was from the e55 340 and in the e58 360. *** So overall if a good 74 360 hp was a strong runner , a stock 340 cam in my 360 will do the job
.Absolutely it will. But I think I would choose the Comp version instead. Much more modern lobes AND they are specific to the .903 lifter diameter.
.
Isn't the Mopar OEM cams also specific to the .903 lifter diameter?
Yes, lose that partikular TQ, IIRC, look for a pre lean burn TQ, before 1976, or 1980 and later.Lose the carburetor. All it's good for is parts. Being an emissions era carburetor it's so lean you're running almost on air.
As for camshaft, I kinda like this one.

Thanks, Randall. I think you're right. I thought I was linking to Lunasty's version of the factory 340 cam, but this one has a good bit more duration..
This cam is the NHRA "Stocker Cam". Not a good street cam for gas milage.
.I recently bought a 318 shortblock and i had a chance to buy a complete engine , 1979 LRE truck eh1 known as the e58 package too...i heard that the 1979 version lost the "340" cam , so i wanted to upgrade it lightly , ldb4 intake and thermoquad and going in my 4 speed cuda....whats the limits of a stock J #596 head with 8.4:1 compression and 410. Camshaft engine , ive seen summit cams , 340 replacement cams and lunati cams , im on a very thight budget and advancing slowly with my cuda but i had no engine and now i have the 318 , 360 , speed and 2.76 gears ( going for 3.23s )**** overall best street cam for a stock 1979 360 , any dynos or real life experience ?
