painting one piece at a time?

We shot my sons Duster with B5 about a year ago. If you listen to the all the advice above it should turn out fine. B5 is the best color in Ma's book of colors ever IMHO.

painting one piece at a time?

Agree totally concerning the topcoat with flake or pearl. Gravity is also a factor. Don't paint a door lying flat on a stand with flake or pearl. It will flow differently than if it were hung or placed in its natural position as fully assembled.

    Hitting the Streets

Snapped this pic last Saturday as my son was heading out to hit the streets (and try to stay out of trouble:rolleyes:) on a beautiful evening here in Colorado. I thought it was cool. I thought I would share.

[FOR SALE] Misc. Parts From 72 Duster Project

No worries. Yes, we have the knobs, face plate and heater hose bracket that is mounted by the alternator but they are in service on our Duster and are not for sale. The buttons should clean up to a point. You can see on the far right button in the picture where I scratched my fingernail on...

[FOR SALE] Misc. Parts From 72 Duster Project

I have not bench tested it but my guess would be that it does work. The low price explains my inability to answer that question. Everything off of this car is about as virgin as it comes. Hell, we're still running the original engine. As for the wires, no, not cut up at all. All original...

[FOR SALE] Misc. Parts From 72 Duster Project

Cleaning up the shop to make room for the next project and I have an assortment of parts from a 72 Duster. All parts are OEM from the car but sat outside for 23 years before we rescued it. Some parts are in better shape than others. Would rather get them to a good home. If they don't sell...

Help me fix my wobbly windows!

Hello R&D, sorry for the slow reply, I believe you spoke with my son, we still have the note here that you left him on his windshield. This is supposed to be a joint account between he and I but he rarely comes on here. His car, his nickle, I'm just his unpaid goon. If I remember correctly we...

1972 Duster Project - Back From The Pasture

Not at all. It get's dusty now and then but nothing a blast of air and a damp rag won't clear up. Ours still looks like the day we laid it down. Hard as nails.

1972 Duster Project - Back From The Pasture

You're not kidding. Ours had pretty deep surface rust on the low areas but not rotten. We spent a day or two wire wheeling the **** out of it then painted the rust areas with POR 15, then Raptor liner over that. If you're going to paint it like factory, it's a **** ton more work. We cut a corner...

1972 Duster Project - Back From The Pasture

We did our first show with it last weekend. It was an open street show, about 300 cars there. Jr. had a blast, as did I. Best comment of the day, "Why does it have three pedals"? I had to elbow Jr. to keep from laughing out loud. I responded, "It's a millennial anti theft device".

1972 Duster Project - Back From The Pasture

1972 Duster Project - Back From The Pasture

Sorry to crack open an old thread fellas, but it was asked above if Junior's senior pics would be taken with the car. As this is graduation week it got me thinking about it. This is the one that went in the year book.

1972 Duster Build with my Daughter

Great job you guys. That thing has come a long way. What did you end up doing for a grill? We're still on back-order for the non-sharktooth here from CI.

1972 Duster Build with my Daughter

Sounds a little restricted to me. Manifolds I assume? What size exhaust did you put on it?

1972 Duster Build with my Daughter

I wasn't asking, I was stating. I know where it is and how to do it. You forget you're walking on ground we walked a year ago. Jr. got boobed flashed lat week while cruising our 72. I have driven some cool $hit over the years and can can honestly say that has never happened to me. Get that...

1972 Duster Build with my Daughter

Nice job Jim. She looks pretty happy. What a sweetheart, car and daughter. LMAO at at the blue LED dash lights, we did the same thing. I also hate that damned door buzzer. We're thinking of disabling ours. What stereo receiver did you put in it, Retro Sound? When are we meeting at 4 corners?

1972 Duster Build with my Daughter

An old rule of thumb when restoring cars. Never scrimp on the parts that show. If you have $25K in that machine you have made some poor choices along the way my friend. :poke:

1972 Duster Build with my Daughter

Looking good Jim. Tons o' work for sure. Da-Haaang that AC heater box is massive! Is that original? I'm glad we didn't have to deal with one. We had enough trouble re-building the non-AC box the way it was. BTW, your suggestion to move the striker out on our driver side door alignment problem...

1972 Duster Build with my Daughter

What did you clear the dash frame with? It's looks a little too glossy compared to OE.
