You're more than welcome... I did it on Mopartoya's coat tails. The 2004R has a protrusion on the driver's side that sticks up where the cross member is located, I don't think it's something you can remove or trim but, in the end, it will depend on how much drive line angle you're willing to...
If your budget allows, the GM 2004R with the mopar adapter bell housing is one that requires the least amount of surgery. (one of the smallest OD transmissions)
It does however pretty much require beefing the trans up to live behind a 5.9.
Next best choice in my opinion would be the A500 out of...
It looks like the 2004R is 28.25" long from the bellhousing mounting surface to the tail of the transmission.
I think it might be helpful to get the lengths including the:
TCI adapter
Wilcap adapter
Reid Racing bellhousing
Can anyone provide these dimensions?
28,000 miles???? You must be punishing it!!:steering: I guess you can plan on getting the 2004R rebuilt every 25,000 miles or risk blowing it up??

Yep sure does. You gotta remember, the camera adds 5 lbs . Several members have already done the swap. Not having to cut the tunnel gives it a lot of appeal, even though it's GM.
New commercial mount for 2004R transmission
Yup, you can use a big ugly plate or an SFI bellhousing to match it up. A 200R4 is a superior choice for lower weight, lower parasitic loss and better performance.
I'd skip Monster trans. Their transmissions are only rated to handle a touch over stock, 350 hp. Skip the Wilcap adapters too. They are a primitive way to adapt the 200R4. Gear Vendors is like a bandaid overdrive. Too little of an overdrive ratio for too much $. If you are going to do it right...
...an old 4 speed gear box myself. I like your trans crossmember setup though and will prob use a variation of it on my sons 69 notchback to use a 2004R trans. Did you sell off the pieces you pulled from the car when updating it? Also are you planning on a color change to black? Wish you all the...
The 700R4 is just like the 2004R in that it can be used without a computer if you use a non lock up torque converter. My 2004R (in my Barracuda) uses a non lock up converter so I can just drive it like a regular car and the trans makes all the shifts on its' own. Yes, I lose 1 - 2 miles per...
You'd be the third to recommend the 200R4. In fact, the poster above you said you had a write-up. Is there any advantage to the 200R4 over the 700R4 or 4L60/4L80?
...LS swap headers. I don't do Facebook. Not socially acceptable... Lol! Thanks Topbrent. If you know him and can, hook me up. I'm thinking of a 2004r so I don't have to cut my floor. Just put in frame ties, tie in the tranny crossmember and ad a crossmember to the frame ties to work as a...
Replace a 4 speed with a 200 auto? Are you freaking nuts? Other them a medical condition you would have to be nuts to do that.
If you want od you can keep the 3:91 gear and just stick a passion od 4 speed in it. Not the 5 speed people are waiting years for but his od 4 speed. There's...
Looked into the A body hemi, 5.7 ,6.1 , 6.2 and 6.4. Not worth the bang for the buck or difficulty for that matter. Actually easier to do an LS with a 2004R or a TKO600. Plus parts and cost and support.
...swap into my dart for that very reason, but when you get into swapping transmissions to modern ones, you start talking about big bucks, mine will run me close to 2500 bucks using a junkyard sourced TR6060. I imagine a 2004R is gonna be at least 1000-1500+ not counting adapter plates and such.
this right here is how you state your differing opinion and tastes in someone else's build thread, but stay respectful and supportive of your fellow enthusiasts. very rare skill sometimes..
this thing is going to be sick when it's all buttoned up. looks fast just sitting there..
...said it was unfinished. Chill out, most everyone was just warning about the hazards of eliminating the NSS. If you can make it look cool and it functions correctly it would make a good alternative for folks who install a GM 2004R which is not compatible with the Mopar NSS wiring/system...
So you attached a lever to your shifter bell crank to move th shifter rod for the 200. Then filed for another shifter position on you stock shifter... Genius!
I completely understand where you're coming from, I was in the same boat. I had limited funds but lots of skills. If you read through this you should get most of your answers including keeping the stock floor shifter!!:
Will GM 200r4 work with factory floor shift location?

I had planned on doing a 2004r swap but after realizing no pick n pull had a core, I decided to go with the 42rh (A500). Now what I am finding is these places think they are made of gold.
One yard quoted me $750 for a trans that has over 200k miles, another quoted me $350 for the same mileage...
That really looks nice but I'm not sure if you cut enough out of the cross member. But I do like the direction you're going!! Remember that you'll probably have to trim a little off the passenger's side also and/or trim/grind some off the trans. Be prepared for the unexpected!!

Thanks for the info. I'm just starting my 73 Dart Sport restoration and plan on installing a 408 and 2004R in mine. Your previous postings have provided me with a lot of valuable info. Needless to say I will not be going to Art Carr for my pieces, too many negatives about him on this board...
Thanks man, yeah I sold of the old engine/transmission and front suspension. The plan is to paint it gloss black with a mopar flat-ish black hood. That part still feels a ways off though.
My 1967 Dart GT is currently being refurb'd at US Car Tool. While there, I had them build a mount for the Extreme Automatics GM 2004R transmission that's going behind my stroked 340. They've decided to sell the mount as a commercial product. Obviously, the kit will require some cutting and...
Thanks for catching the non-computer function of the 700R4, Treblig. The lock-up function adds weight to the reciprocating assembly too, so for a drag only car, a guy might want to consider that.
I use a normally open switch in the 4th gear circuit along with a simple toggle switch wired with...
The 2004R is Gm overdrive automatic. I have one in my '69 Barracuda. I absolutely love it!! It requires an adapter plate sold by numerous companies. It is not a bolt in replacement. It also requires minor trimming of the upper trans cross member and changes in driveshaft length. The TV...
I have rear trans mount pics (modifications) for the 2004R behind a 318 in a '69 Barracuda. My TCI adapter was very inexpensive. I think the whole conversion only cost about $1700.00. My whole conversion is on this FABO site.
