I found the pinion gear has some wear, including this worst part (see previous post above with latest photos). The thread for this post kind of ran it's course so was trying to bring attention to this. I'm hoping I can just go with it. The ring gear looks great. To everyone who replied, thanks...

Found some more questionable issues. Pinion gear has some wear on the leading edges, this one in photo being the worst. Ring gear looks beautiful, everything turns and feels really smooth. This is more than only cosmetic like the sg housing... but still...?

Yeah I have no idea what it was originally in, I got it this way.

No I'm not. Just putting in new clutches in the SG, then installing into the open carrier. So no pinion depth adjustment necessary? I'll have to look for the how to. I think it'll be best if I read / watch some info and videos before I tear into it. Thanks

I have the shop manual, it says to do this before taking apart. Except the back side of the ring gear doesn't have a flat square surface to put the dial indicator on, just that angled part?

And if anyone has any tips before I get started, this is my first rodeo for a rear end build. Thanks.

Lol the way you worded your response... I'm wondering if you're being sarcastic. Just getting thoughts that I might not be thinking of. Yeah the housing in that area is chewed up on the surface but for what I'm using it for, and rebuilding it too, I was ok with it.

I did mention about side mirrors and antenna. Actually they asked about any modifications. (They had a photo of my car and I did mention the hood scoops, they said that's no big deal.) They don't offer with side pockets for mirrors on mine. And I'm covering it now without any chrome parts on it...

So I purchased a Dustop California car cover for my 71 Scamp. It came in yesterday and put it on. It doesn't come down far enough to completely cover and protect the sides. Lower rear fenders, rocker panels and lower front quarters are not covered. Does anyone else have this problem?

Looking real good! Makes me think about putting a/c in my Scamp. Wondering how that works with a non-factory a/c car and what modifications I have to make to the car. Particularly any extra mounting or routing holes in the body. I hate doing that.
