What's on your "to do" list for this winter on your race car?

bodywork to make the air cleaner look stock. Install antigravity battery, change a big heavy steel bracket holding the trans cooler over to carbon fiber one. Make battery tray out of carbon fiber.

    Cylinder #7 down on compression

It is such a PITA to run it, then re-torque. That I just let it sit overnight. Then in sequence back each one off a 1/4 turn and re-torque. They all turn more. Never had an issue doing it that way. Have pushed the gasket into the valley if I didn’t don’t re-torque. Now I run Cometic, they do not...

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

Every combo has its warts, it’s just can you live with them. I think that is why the small block A body shows so well. Nothing is holy cow great, but nothing is a deal breaker.

    Cylinder #7 down on compression

These areas don’t look great. They usually push the gasket into the valley, but no milkshake oil. I always re-torque the Felpro gaskets. The fasteners always turn a bit more after sitting overnight.

    Help identify these heads

They are better than any original production head, XJ etc. they have been out of production for many years. The tooling was lost when Indy changed hands and they will not be produced again. They have just recently been approved for FAST, but no one wanted them. They are clearly a performance...

    Read my plugs.

The timing mark is about at the bend, to confirm back it up 2 degs and make a run, then add 2 degs at a time until it drops mph. Then you can take out 1-2 degrees. Using the ground strap for timing can be misleading if your plug heat range is off significantly. That plug shows no heat in the...

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

Absolutely, track prep is utterly essential! Can’t do it without it. Applying anything to the tire directly? No.

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

I have run my car at a no prep race. It was fun and funny all at the same time!

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

No one I know treats the tires, just not effective. If it was, I would do it and there is no reason to hide it.

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

Just nothing abrupt, everything smooth. I have come to realize as crazy as it sounds. Have to start from the beginning of the launch. Any issue gets compounded as you go. My 1-2 shift is rarely an issue, if I spin at the hit, it will spin at the 1-2. because of lost momentum.

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

he’s running J’s, I’m running X’s. Core shift is usually the difference maker between the two. Although X’s in full tilt effort, good core, is supposed to be a hair better. I think his might flow more than mine now. Last year not so much and annoyingly still ran 10.3’s!!!!! Over 130!

Duster Breaks FAST Small Block Record

Not everything goes, no power adders, all steel body panels bumpers. You must use stock castings,(limited exceptions), stock carb, but can be modified. The cost is always in figuring out what doesn’t work. 40-45 to recreate the car, (if you have a restored Duster) but a bunch of things just...

Solid roller cam Vs Hyd flat tappet

I don’t know what springs are on the heads, but would want to makes sure they would be ok with the old cam. Going roller can be hit or miss on whether you need to bush the lifter bores.

The steel one I ran for years, knew it wasn’t ideal, but had no easy alternative. This is actually the first CF base, (Bill D. is now running it without the stub stack, but with his own CF lid.) the lids I made are 1/2” bigger in diameter. So we don’t need a skeletonized base. Pie tin still...

At MIR two weeks ago. I have had the stub stack for years, but it never ran well and back then I wasn’t logging data. I knew it was hammering the air door open, but was afraid to really crank on the spring. Breaks pretty easy. First ran the CF housing at MIR, no stack. Needed to add fuel, then...

How big in diameter is it? Printer will print 7.5”x7.5” but will do 9” high. So if it is more than 18” in diameter……or break it up into more mold pieces.

Thanks, improve mph. 120.75. Looking at data today, was a bit fat all weekend and need to slow down the air door just a hair. Didn’t really look at the logs all weekend. Made a half hearted attempt at running an AVS2. Moved my jets and rods over to an 800 AVS2, it was very unhappy just running...

Some of the time Jim ran the car it was a stick, super hard to do. I think a B or RB will be comparable to a small block, but harder to get there. I’m REALLY looking forward to seeing it finished.

Currently, there are no BB A body guys running. There is a “383” A body close to being finished. You would need to run the A body 383 exhaust manifolds to be legal. You might be able to run whichever fits, C or B manifold if you ask. They are better, but with the cost and scarcity of original...

    HVH Super sucker?

I bought a 3d printer and have printed a bunch of spacers. I limited to what I can hang on the bottom of a 1/4” 4 hole style spacer. Haven’t run them yet, had to change how the top and bottom layers printed to have a better seal, but for $5.00 in PETG plastic and 10 hours of print time.
