    Very mild 318 - Comp 252H vs 340 cam?

That's Melling. Not Chrysler. Specs could very well be different and they usually were in the aftermarket.

    318 cam suggestions

The alloy heads when combined with a tight quench, will support very high cylinder pressure on pumpgas . Good luck getting there with flat-tops and a 340 cam. It will never happen. See Note-1 If you ignore the pressure possibility, the guy in the next lane with an identical set up but pushing...

Seeing if this cam is good and if it will work

Thats a decent cam. But for stock long block 318 I would chose a cam with a faster ramp. The difference between the duration @50 and the advertised duration. The larger that number the lower the cylinder pressure will be. With a stock 318 your compression is already low. Any of the new cams like...

    318 cam

This may not help the OP, but the SUM-6900 cam and lifters is what I ended up using in my 74 318. Bone-stock low-compression bottom end with the cam, duals, and an 1406 Edelbrock on a Performer intake. I currently still have 2.76 gears and a stock convertor. I noticed no loss of low-end and...

identify the year of my 360 long block

In my book, the windage trays, distributors, and camshafts are not the "same". Will they bolt on? Sure, but, they're not identical. The windage tray needs to be tweaked a bit to keep it from rubbing the crank if you put a 318/340 tray on a 360. Cams and distributor specs are different.

Advice: Solid Roller or Hydraulic Roller for street car

Gearing and your torque converter are your holdup. You already know this. Address that second! Have you addressed your suspension, tires and brakes first? If you can't control or stop your car, you better not go fast. Hydraulic rollers will never rev as high as solid flat tappet. What heads do...

    Best E58 360HP Camshaft....your guesses

. The EH1 was not an E58. It was a modified E58. The EH1 only came out in the LRE. It had a bigger carb than the E58 engines. Where is it written that the 79 LRE used a differant cam? What about the 1980 LRE's that went to Canada?

    318 cam

What exactly do you mean by "how big a cam?" You can put a long duration cam in, but you will loose bottom end torque and gain high RPM power. For that the rest needs to be up to the forces the RPM generate. Rod bolts and valve springs come to mind just off the top. A high lift lobe also...

Valve spring differences between roller cam and flat tappet cam.

I have a 1987 318. The heads I had rebuilt are from an earlier 318. I'm curious if I need to use the stock valvesprings from the roller cam engines. My machinist thought that the factory roller cams are really tame and that the flat tappet spec springs would be fine. What do you all think ?

Engines with lack bottom end power?

Need to watch the David Vizard Powertec 10 Youtube video discussing cam selection and how cam companies get it wrong. His method is the LSA is the input based on cylinder volume divided by intake valve diameter multiplied by 0.91. This is subtracted from 128 for SBC and 127 for SBF. Most...

    318 with random parts.

That is why I specified LA engines. Big blocks and Hemi's also came with solid lifters.

    Stroker advice

Here below is an example of someone thinking his way through a combination, not saying anything directly applies to your build, Not meant as a recipe to follow but a piece of someone redesign a engine driveline combo, just an eg.. to give you kind of an idea what I meant by come up with a gameplan.

    Comp XE268H v Crow 18619 - 318

Because you’re talking about a stock stroke 318, I would go with this one if it were available. 71 up 2.47 to1 and 2.66 to 1

For a streeter, those two boxes are so close, it's hardly worth thinking about. 2.66-1.92-1.40-1.00/ splits of .722-.729-.714 versus 2.47-1.77-1.34-1.00/ splits of .717-.757-.746. This is because, Second gear will get you into speeding territory after about 5.5 seconds, and before you hit...

    HFT vs SFT Cam Identification

I agree the ramps are over well before .050 but it would probably would also be useful to check the duration @ .050 to see if the cam would be effective for his application. It appears that he does not know much about it at all.

Stock 318 2 Barrel Cam Choice

So I recently bought a bone stock '73 318 2 barrel. Since it is going to need to beat up on some stock mustangs from my high school, I am going to do a cam swap and put on a '71 340 4 barrel intake I got with the engine. My question is; since I am only changing the cam and intake, what cam...

Hydraulic roller lifter questions (LA 318)

Yup. You're right. I compared pictures of both and the lifter bores on the LA are a good bit shorter. It's funny though, Comp Cams offers a kit for the Cleveland engines that utilizes the Ford small block spider and dog bones. The lifter bores in those engines are the same as the windsor roller...

Need some advice 318 POLY vs 318 LA

Yeah, I was really posting for those who don't know about all the poly motors. Lotta confusion about fifties Chrysler Corp motors. When I replaced my timing chain, I found out that 56 Plymouth poly motors had a one year only cast iron timing cover, with the water pump sitting higher than later...
