X2 like Rusty said. There is also dry ice or soda blasting, which is lower heat than sand. It's the sheet metal part that's vulnerable to the warping. The hood bracing underneath is a bit thicker metal and less likely to warp.

how many miles were on the motor originally. while lo miles isn't a sure thing, it's a likely bet things are better than they are worse. the FSM has the procedure and specs for checking the wibbly-wobblyness of the valves. or you could always roll some dice with giving them a little wiggle...

You can not go wrong with OEM parts. Middle of nowhere and you need an alternator. Good luck finding a non OEM part.
