1968 Dart sudden rear end noise.

My wife bought the car from her mom which was a 69 Dodge Charger 318 automatic. The car was originally a Missouri rental car. It had a 7.25 rear end.

    273 or 225?

I'd agree if he didn't have to pull the six anyways, so I don't see the swap should hinder his decision since either engine he has to do one. If he feels staying with six fills his needs and don't see a v8 swap in his future then I'd say go for it.

I'm Cummins swapping a '74 Duster, thought I'd share the progress.

The stupid is pretty much part of the point at this point. Atleast that's my outlook.

[WANTED] Early A V8 Gas Pedal Assembly

Slant blew the #6 rod out the side of the block after 58 years of service (64’ Valiant Wagon). It is time to V8 swap. I have everything I need for the swap with the exception of the V8 gas pedal assembly. Having a hard time tracking it down. Looking for one or an easy alternative.

    Slant 6 to 318 conversion...

Slant 6 clutch is different than the v-8 clutch Bell housing I need to check on the PN. Unless someone else chimes in. Other than wiring harness - this is not non- reversible. Just some work, that’s all. But you know what they say- go V8 and never look back. Syleng1

It's no wonder the Slant 6 is so great!

Growing up, my dad had a 1962 Valiant that he totaled, then a 1964 Valiant and a 1964 Stepside Dodge D100, all with 225 /6s. He let me help him rebuild the slant in the 1964 Valiant that he bought used. Don't know how many times the odometer had tripped by that point but we found two broken...

Brakes won't stop my Valiant 100

My advice is focused on you having a hard pedal but ineffective stopping power,,,,if that isn't the case then Ignore me. But,,,The nine inch brakes just don't don't work well with any wheels larger than the original 13 inch rim. i know, as I have a 71 demon slant six that would stop only very...

Why do I keep breaking rocker arms?

I used to argue all the time with V8 guys when I was a slanter. It's not that the slant 6 can beat every engine out there when modified because it can't it's just that it's so neat it can go down the road as fast as it can when you do the right things. Obviously a lot of that reliability starts...

Need to know what kind of hubs I can use?

Probably. Unless the drums were swapped on. These cars are like 50 years old so a lot can happen. Someone that ordered the car talked the dealership into taking the disks off, some drag racer thought they needed drums for less rolling resistance, somebody was parting this car and stole the...

Will a 77 Charger 360 fit in a 65 Valiant Slant Six Painlessly?

Ah - forgot the 65 trans took a ball and trunnion front joint. But, yeah. There's also pulleys and brackets. Will the 77 360's pulleys and brackets fit in a 65 Valiant??? Don't know. May well not, especially if the 77 had A/C. Might need to scrounge around a bit to find what you need. And...

    Plymouth Feather Duster Questions

Hi, I’m still learning the ins and outs of classic cars so I wanted to ask about the possible engines a Feather Duster could have? I found a 1976 Plymouth Duster for sale that needs some work but I’m looking for a Feather Duster so I wanted to confirm it was one before I inquired about it. I...

New to mow par x ford guy

Assuming both are automatics- get the transmission from the Diplomat, too. The slant 6 transmission will not fit a V8. Since the 318 is a 1987, it may still have the Lean Burn system on it, which you will most likely want to delete- all this will involve is an earlier electronic ignition...

    273 or 225?

Nice sounding Leaning Tower Of Power Rusty. I like v8's but that has a nice sound. To @tandart66, If I had a 66 (which I have) I wouldn't transplant a 65 drive train in it. I would go 66 or newer. 65 273's are different than the 66 and newer ones. The heads, intake, transmission, linkage and...

3 ohm vs 1.5 ohm ignition coil

Yes, thank you, I'm aware that the GM HEI system is superior, I've seen the testing and so forth on slant six forum, great stuff. So, do you know why 3 ohms would be specified for 4 and 6 cylinders and lower resistance for v8's? That's the part I don't get. Why would one not want more spark...

    66 Dart 360 Swap Questions

Yup, or, get a '66 V8 parts car to do the changeover, or, just buy a '66 Dart with a V8 already in it.

    Slant 6 throttle cable

I'm having a tough time trying to locate a /6 throttle cable for a 1965 B-body. I need the extra length over the v8 cables. Are the A-body cable the same length? Stock v8 cables are 20" on the b-body. Con someone post the length of theirs? Thanks.

    273 or 225?

That's what I would do also. I like the 225 A cars. A real pleasure for cruising around. My favorite of the many I've owned was a 68 4dr, auto ac, ps, pb Dart. That was a great do everything car. It certainly earned my respect. If I had a clean 2dr 225 A car and wanted a v8, it would have to run...

    What would you do

If the second car (273 car) has the better body, I'd build that one. If neither one has a good solid body, I'd find a third one that does and build it instead. Use the other two for parts. If your second car is good, I'd keep it a 273 and sell the rebuilt 225 to help fund the 273 build (assuming...

    Oil dipstick full mark

You've gathered incorrectly. This is why one dipstick and tube does not fit all. For example, try putting a 67-76 A body slant 6 pan on a 66 and back slant 6 A body. Ain't happenin, because the pans are shaped differently. There are subtle shape differences in V8 pans as well, so you have to be...

    Hypothetical 318 Builds

Almost every time someone asks me what I have in my Duster, I answer "just a 318." Normal response to that is "nothing wrong with that, one of the best engines ever made". FWIW, I think you running a Slant 6 is cool.
