I was taught, you mount everything up, fill the reservoir, pump with short strokes till you get a peddle, then start bleeding with a flexible line attached to the bleed valve submerged into a clear jar of brake fluid (so you can see the bubbles). USE A BOX END WRENCH to open and close the bleed...

Might check rotation as well. Alot of industrial and marine engines have a reversed rotation, don't know about the slanties.

There was an individual in the UP North Shore (Lake Superior) that did this to an old Willys Wagon. Thing looked unstoppable.
