    Fuel guage issue

I put an aftermarket fuel guage in my '69 and re rean the wiring so it is independant. When I take the sending unit out and check the ohms (full and empty) they are within specs. However, the guage (equuis) shows full when the float is up and 3/4 when the float is down. Any ideas?
