[FOR SALE] A903 Trans. & Bell Housing

I have an A903 3-speed that was the factory unit in my '69 Dart. I completely overhauled it in 2000, ran it for about 6-8,000 miles before I replaced it with the overdrive 4-speed. It has been in my storage unit since. Includes the bell housing, clutch fork and boot, drive shaft yoke, and shift...

    833 Strength

A properly built A-833 will handle as much HP as you can throw at it. It is the best four speed passenger car transmission ever made by an OEM. It is a bit on the heavy side though. Ronnie Sox won a bunch of races with 'em.

3-4 Shift Fork For Late A833

For a '75 cast iron overdrive. Steel. A new one if anybody has one. A used one with very little wear would be OK too. My old one is worn beyond use.

    Help In Identifying Billet Distributor

I have pretty much confirmed to myself that it's for a small block. It does spring back counterclockwise and it fits in my LA bare block in the correct position for the drive tang to engage. Here's whats left of the cap:

    Help In Identifying Billet Distributor

I picked this thing up on e-bay recently for a real good price. The seller identified it as the MP billet dist., but this is a multiple piece unit with a non-stock pick up coil. I thought the MP unit was one piece with a stock pick up coil and breaker rotor. So I am turning to our resident...

    A833OD with worn output spline

I might just ship Brewers my main shaft and see if he can fin a yoke that fits it then. Due to a lot of other stuff going on in my life right now my 69 Dart project has been dormant lately, but I am ready to get back on it again here pretty soon.

    do chains really stretch?

The 318 core engine I bought for my build had NO nylon teeth left on the cam gear. All down in the oil pan. Nice little valve marks on all the pistons and you could see where the chain was rubbing on the timing cover inside. Crazy!

    Manual 3spd column to floor

Nice! Now you have a trans with first gear syncro and no more messing around with that coulmn shift linkage that goes out of adjustment every month.

    Manual 3spd column to floor

That A903 has no provision for mounting a floor shifter. It is a coulmn shift box only. Best thing to do would be to see if you can find an A230 or A250 set up complete with shifter and linkage and swap it over. They are getting hard to find but I see them up for sale on craigslist once and a while.

Scored A Set Of Magnum R/T's!!!!!

Are the push rod holes big enough for a flat tappet cam? I have read that they need to be opened up all the way to the VCG rail. Pretty rough castings really, lots of flash and junk in the intake ports. Could use some smoothing.

    A833OD with worn output spline

Brewer's # for it is TY8330. 7260 joint. But, I believe it's the same Chinese manufactured yoke everyone is selling. I'm going to order one of the PTI made yokes and see if I have better luck. This may be a combination of manufacturing tolerances from the OEM shaft and the aftermarket yoke...

    A833OD with worn output spline

The OD main shaft: 1.281 major, 1.182 minor The '68 A-body shaft: 1.280 major, 1.183 minor I think it's how the splines are cut in the aftermarket yoke. I''l post some pics.

    A833OD with worn output spline

I will measure both my '68 and '75 main shaft tonight and post what I come up with. I have a nice digital caliper that is pretty accurate. I hope I don't have to buy 3 or 4 yokes to find one that will fit my OD shaft.

    833 rebuild questions

Yes, the entire transmission has to come apart to swap out main shafts.

    A833OD with worn output spline

I'm beginning to think the slip yoke splines on the cast iron OD units are a little different than everything else. I bought a new yoke from Brewer's and it fits my '68 A-body unit perfectly, but on my cast iron OD shaft the new yoke will go on about two inches VERY TIGHT and then stops, and I...

    overdrive tranny problems

Look at the dog keys. Do they have lots of wear? Look at the inside of the 1-2 sleeve. Any scoring or wear there? How about the fork. Any grooving or wear? Oh, and one more thing, DO NOT shift it into 4th gear overdrive while it's on the bench with the side cover off. Sleeve moves too far and...

slip yoke problem / TF 727

I am having the same problem too, but kind of in reverse. I have a cast iron OD 833 out of a '75 Dart, and the yoke Brewer's sent me fits the same way 360duster described. But the funny thing is it fits my '68 A-body 833 beautiful with no problems. Both are 30 spline. I have to assume the early...

3 on the tree to floor shift question

I am doing this exact same swap on my 69 Dart right now. You can just knock the pin out that holds the shift lever on and run it like that if you want. In my case I lucked out and found a floor shift steering column on e-bay that I swapped so I can keep a factory look. Trans. X-member and mount...

Scored A Set Of Magnum R/T's!!!!!

Yes, that Hughes set-up is the one I have my eye on. Should bolt right in place of the stock rockers. With beehive springs should be a nice high rpm valve train. I'll take some pics of the R/T's and post them this week. They are really nice heads.

Any tips on pulling motor and trans together

I will have to agree, that's the way the factory did it!

Scored A Set Of Magnum R/T's!!!!!

I really like the idea of a mechanical cam in this engine. Seems the way to go with a 4-speed car and an engine that will see most of it's life in the upper RPM ranges. Lifters are cheaper and not as sensitive to oiling issues, no preload to deal with when checking push rod length, ability to...
