Memike picked up a hitchhiker today….

I've talked to Herb several times at car shows around NC. I don't know if the man has ever met a stranger....lol. To be the legend he is, he is nice to be around....and he is perfectly willing to share his knowledge with anyone. Last time I got to talk to him was at The Farmington NC car show...

    73 340 crankshaft value

Yes and no about it being the same. Both are cast cranks, but the 318 cranks are internally balanced. The 340 cast cranks are heavier duty cranks and are externally balanced. @luvmopars If the crank isn't rusted up and is still standard, AND you still have the harmonic balancer unique to those...

    ITS BEEN ALITTLE WHILE

Good to see you post Wayne. You've done some nice jobs this year. Wish you were closer....I wouldn't be trying to learn to spray my own junk! lol. :realcrazy:

63 Dodge Dart, now let me see;)

I have a ballast resistor on my 71 Challenger that has a MP Ignition kit in it, but it still has a factory 3 wire alternator. I'm not quite sure if the alternator is the determining factor for a ballast resistor or not? The MP instructions with the ignition kit says to cut the unused green wire...

D4B DC mods like the LD340 DC mods?

It should be able to be cleaned up on a mill to look decent. If nothing else, it can be a spreadbore intake. I need to dig it out, take it to my buddy with a mill and 60 years of machining experience and tell him...."I doubt you can fix this, but see what you can do." :poke:

D4B DC mods like the LD340 DC mods?

I've got an LD340 that I picked up at a swap meet many moons ago. Someone had attempted the divider mod and spreadbore deal, but it looks like they done it with a bush axe and then used a course thread half inch bolt for a file! :BangHead:

Hopefully, the turkey & dressing will be so good that you don't even think about the motor. :)

D4B DC mods like the LD340 DC mods?

I had to have mine bushed because one bore was worn out. I never paid any attention to the chamfers. I used Morel lifters. They are the only ones that the oil band on the lifter doesn't come above the top of the lifter bore. The oil band is lower on the lifter body. Some of the big name Mopar...

63 Dodge Dart, now let me see;)

I'll measure the one on my truck tomorrow for you, but I am sure it's smaller than any of the Chrysler alternators of the muscle car era. It's already dark and my butt found the recliner after a long drive....lol.

I stole this pic from @niceolddart ! It is identical to my alternator on my 88 and setup on the motor is the same.

D4B DC mods like the LD340 DC mods?

@go-fish Here’s a pic of my pistons when I was assembling my 273. I used 302 heads that in the final windup had 58 cc’s and 1.88 intake valves. A little massaging, but nothing crazy. I ended up with 9.8 compression wit these pistons. More than enough for what I wanted. Mild hyd. roller cam. I...

63 Dodge Dart, now let me see;)

If I remember right, other than mine being natural aluminum finish, that pretty much looks like the one on my old truck. I need to open the hood and charge the battery anyway, so I'll get a pic of the alternator when I get home tomorrow. I've never paid much attention to the one wire deal, but I...

Looks like you have plenty enough wrap on the AC belt so it won't squeal being a single. I'm not sure if it's original to the truck, but my 88 D100 has a small alternator. Way smaller than what would have come on any 60's - 70's Mopars. I'm pretty sure it's a Denso alternator, but I will check...

I live in the area where all the flooding was. I'd heard about that car, and hadn't seen the pic until the other day. It was in what's called The River Arts District, which is right along the French Broad River. Prior to Helene, the worst flood in history was in 1916 when 2 tropical storms met...

    Painted the engine bay

You did a very nice job on it! Engine compartments are hard to paint without running them to hell and back like the factory did...lol. I've gotten to where I just remove the K frame with the car as high on jack stands as I can get it. Then I'll get inside from the bottom, wrap the air hose...

Mopars at The Rock - Fall show - Nov 16th 2024

HUGE turnout today! Swap meet was much bigger than the Spring show. Lots of race cars. Lots of show cars and a lot of spectators. The new owners of Rockingham Dragway are Mopar guys, and are doing a GREAT job of picking business back up at the track. Good to see @Mtrhead , @mikebee and...

Bending the shift rod may be the best solution. If you put more of a bend in it at the first bend from the shifter, won't that raise it up some? You have plenty of thread left on the adjustment, so hopefully it will work. Can you loosen up the shifter to shifter plate bolts, will the whole...

63 Dodge Dart, now let me see;)

Maybe try picking the motor up just enough to get the weight off motor mounts, and rotate it counterclockwise, looking at it from the front of the car. The slots in the K frame give you a decent bit of wiggle room to do that.

    eq magnum rockers

I can't be of any help with the rockers, but have a question about the Magnum swap. When you went from the 4.7 to the Magnum, did you have to move the motor mount saddles on the frame? I have an 04 Dakota, and somewhere down the road when the current 4.7 gives up, I plan to Magnum swap it. Just...

    Quincy Air Compressor Help needed

If you buy parts to repair it from Quincy, they're gonna bend you over with no Vaseline.....don't ask me how I know! :BangHead: Call Pacific Air Compressor and get what you need from them.
