    Lean idle. Rich cruise.

Going to rework my distributor and start over. I rechecked my timing and things aren't right. Think it has a broken spring or something. Very inconsistent. I'll let you kno×what I find.

    Lean idle. Rich cruise.

Idle screws are at 7/8 out now. Turning them out makes cruise richen up. Jetted down 4 sizes in front and still super rich at cruise and wot.

    Lean idle. Rich cruise.

Already blocked the middle e hole. The others are .028 but I have 26s I'll put in. I think my timing is ok. 22 at idle. 34 WOT and 50 cruise. I can make the t slot restrictors I have blanks to drill. Thanks for the info. I'm learning.

    Lean idle. Rich cruise.

Sorry. I meantt an additional 1/4 turn. They are at about 7/8 out. Initial timing is 22 and 34 total with 50 at cruise. When I richen the idle the cruise goes richer also.

    Lean idle. Rich cruise.

How do I lean out the cruise and richen the idle. Bought an afr gauge and the results surprised me. Reading 10.8 at WOT, 11.8 cruise and 15.0 at idle. Box stock proform 750 dp. 3 emulsion blocks all open. 74 an#80 jets. IABs .070 and hsab .028. So plugged the center emulsion other two are .028...

    Factory high stall converter

My 383 roadrunner converter stalled at 2600 behind a 440 about 2400 behind the 383.

Will shorty headers work on a 64 dart with a 273.

    340 Camshaft

Your engine is very close to my old 340. Stock 340 long block with rpm intake, headers, 750 dp and mopar 280 474 cam. With 3.55s, 2400 stall and drag radials it ran 13.15 at 102 at 3550 lbs. Can't get that cam now, but a comp 280 magnum or 280 purple plus would work fine.

Am I Going To Be Happy With This Camshaft?

Had that cam in a 9 to 1 318 with stock 360 heads. It was a little soft on the bottom end with the stock converter but still ran 14.0 at 101 with 3.55 open rear at 3500 lbs. It should work great in a 10 to 1 340.

    J head porting

I went from home ported 2.02 j heads to cleaned up eddy's and gained nothing. If you go aluminum get the trick flow's or have the eddy ported..

    Purple cam for SB.

I loved the one I had. Great street cam and ran strong.

    383 power upgrade help

Just use eddy rpm heads with a 75cc chamber. Unless you have the + .020 above deck magnum Pistons you will need the smallest chamber heads to get any reasonable compression. I've also used .020 steel shim gaskets with some copper coat and never had a leak. If you have the clearance.

    340 BREAK IN

I’m not much into dyno numbers.

PBR. I don't know for sure. I guess I just assumed. I know he has in the past.

I’m not much into dyno numbers.

Makes me wonder what Ray can actually get out of a set of factory heads.
  21. aaronk785

I’m not much into dyno numbers.

I'd guess high compression, huge roller cam, ported heads, intake and exhaust plus tricks we've never heard of. Pro stock type motor with some factory parts.

Any one ever use a Lisle 59000 valve guide tool

I have a UTP thread master that is similar. Make sure you are centered well. If you are the guide alignment tool will come out easily. Make damn sure the coring bit is sharp and uniform or it will wonder. If you check these things it's not hard to use and does a good job. It is time consuming...

    Hughes 5003 lifters

I think hughes calls for .080 to .095 preload on their lifters. Your at about .042. If 3/8 fine thread.

Speedmaster, Edelbrock, ProMax head question for you guys

Even with a 700 lift cam I'd still go with the liberty. Cam will spend a hell of a lot more time at .600 and less than above .600.

    Another drag strip leaving us

Shawnee County is where the state capital is. Very crooked County. This is my local track and there done after this year. Only one track left in kansas and it's 3.5 hours away. I think my racing career just ended. There were 4 track just 6 years ago.

    440 crankshaft broke

I hope I can tear it down this weekend and figure out how it all started. None of the plugs have been hit. I guess thats a good thing maybe the heads aren't hurt to bad. Thanks everyone.

    440 crankshaft broke

No. It was in great shape and just balanced.

    440 crankshaft broke

Blew my engine this last race. Broke the crankshaft in half. It's a 440 factory steel crank in about a 650hp engine. Short block was about 9 years old and was at just under 600hp. Added new trickflow heads, dominator crb. And ported super victor and on the fifth run it blew at the top of 1st. My...
