Best riding shocks for an early A-Body

Any updates? I'm thinking Bilstein too, but want all the feedback I can get. Thx.

Torsion bars for better handling; your experience?

Update: I later switched to 1.03" torsion bars and I like them better. It feels more nimble and handles bumps like a champ. I now find myself looking for sharp turns and bumps to go over for fun. Go heavy sway bar and heavy torsion bars, and then quality shocks to soften the ride imho. I...

Need another mechanic tip: lower ball joint studs turning with nuts?

Pricey or not, if they solve my problems... Maybe I'll be in the mood to spend the money when warm weather comes back around.

Need another mechanic tip: lower ball joint studs turning with nuts?

I was thinking about that, but the only ones I like the look of are from SPC and kinda pricey. What kind did you go with?

Need another mechanic tip: lower ball joint studs turning with nuts?

I was researching that when I found this thread. I'm trying to tune my front suspension and can't get negative camber on one side. Someone suggested adding 1/8" washers between the ball joint casting and spindle to tilt the wheel in. I'm thinking about trying it.

Adjustable strut rods alignment question 74 Dart

I didn't have the sway bar disconnected when I set the ride height, but I can see how that would cause me to adjust one side differently than the other. I raised it up and messed with it along with straightening the steering wheel and it was much better. I'm hopefull that with the adjustable...

Adjustable strut rods alignment question 74 Dart

Thanks for the reply. Right after I posted, I went home for lunch, loosened the UCA bolts and was able to move it through the range of travel. I tightened the strut until it no longer wanted to drop all the way down and then losened it slightly so it would move again. Since it's now shorter...

Adjustable strut rods alignment question 74 Dart

I'm installing QA1 adjustable strut rods on my 75 Duster and have questions (stupid ones). Everyone says "adjust it so you can move through the entire path of travel with no binding." I removed my sway-bar, shocks, tie rod ends and cut my strut bars. Passenger LCA moves easily fore/aft and I...

    Torsion Bar Install

Update: It wasn't the pitman arm - the position was correct. Two different alignment shops told me that there wasn't enough adjustment to straighten my wheel, but I simply adjusted it straight with my tie rod sleeves and approximated my toe-in. The handling is improved. I'm now convinced that...

Does your Duster "float" at highway speed?

1975 Duster 318 with Power Steering and mostly stock style suspension: I'm currently having this same problem and no help from the alignment shops. Two of them, so far, have sent me home with my wheel turned 90 deg. to the right and said they couldn't fix it (fixed it myself). They could only...

    Torsion Bar Install

Well, I took the 75 Duster to the alignment shop and they didn't know what to do with it. The caster numbers weren't impressive, but I'm convinced this isn't an alignment, tires, etc problem. I used to align this myself with 25yo components, before offset bushings, with a tape measure, with no...

    Torsion Bar Install

I had given the Skosh chart to the tech and they were supposed to align to the "typ. performance street" specs, but who knows what they actually did. I felt though, that this was a bigger problem than a dubious alignment. I noticed the front end was sitting almost on the bump stops, so I...

    Torsion Bar Install

I'm dealing with something like this right now on my 75 Duster 318. I rebuilt my front end a couple of years ago and installed slightly larger .890 bars. Had it aligned in the fall and it drifted all over the road. I put it away for the winter, didn't drive it all last summer and now I'm...

    Rim suggestion

Who cares about the Honda Civic? I've driven my Duster with a stock 318 for 22 years and never raced anyone. I have a blast driving and working on it and drive it everyday in the summer. People who obsess about speed end up parking their overbuild cars in the garage and drive their Civic to...

    Cheap Seat Covers for Bench

I just want to post this because it's something I had looked for and couldn't find much info. After several years of purchasing and returning junk seat covers, I finally found one that did the job. This one works for a variety of split bench configurations and fit my '75 Duster 50/50 split back...

Torsion bars for better handling; your experience?

Was going for handling/comfort on my 75 Duster 318. .890 t-bars, heavy sway bar, kyb gas-adjust shocks, new rubber bushings. This thing is a peach to drive and handles great for normal driving. Get decent tires and align it to modern specs (basically opposite of bias-ply 1970s specs).

Long Term POR-15 users - Are yo still happy with the product?

Typically only use it where there is rust that can't be removed or for patches with fiberglass. I painted the ugly half of my rear bumper ~18 years ago when it was completely covered in rust. I used the marine clean and metal prep and two coats (always a 2nd coat). It has a uniform scattering...

    Paint Or Undercoat?

POR-15 is not remotely similar to rustoleum. It's extremely tough and very effective when applied properly to the right surface. It's messy, process sensitive, and paint doesn't stick well to it. On a rusty surface that I don't want to replace, it's awesome. On a new surface, I'd use...

318 engine running rough tips??? Trouble shooting...

Acts just like mine when I start it cold with no choke. It runs smooth when rev'ed and once it warms up a little. Mixture too lean at idle? Timing advance not working? Both could be due to vacuum leak. Maybe I'll learn something if you figure it out!

No expert here, but a good long look for vacuum leaks might pay off.

Door Rain Gutter on rear of 69 Dart - Rust issues

That POR putty is bullet proof in my experience - and easy to work with. Go with what you suggested and drive it. By the time it becomes a problem again, your grand kids will 3D print a whole new Dart from carbon fiber.

1970 duster door glass is loose

Possibly, but it doesn't have a roller. It's just a round vertical stationary tube. It seems to guide the window into place. If I remember right (this is all from memory), it only runs on felt pads. I'll have to take a pic when the snow melts.

Front end wonders newbie needs help

I don't know the thickness of the leafs, but I'm running new .890 torsion bars. Don't know what kind of shocks, but they're 11-12 years old also (should be ok). It feels nice and firm in the front with no body roll at all. Overall, I'm pretty happy. I can turn a swift 90 effortlessly. It...

Front end wonders newbie needs help

Thanks all. I hadn't put much thought into the rear. I have some 11 year old JC whitney HD leafs back there that maybe could use some attention. They look ok, but the bushings could be defective and I wouldn't know. Otherwise I just have the same size wheels front & back and keep things...

1970 duster door glass is loose

I have the same problem on drivers side. I took it apart last fall and there is a "tube" that runs vertical. At the top of that tube was a bolt with a LoT of slop, as if there was a bushing something missing. It seemed to be the source of my problem. I can't find so much as a picture of the...

Front end wonders newbie needs help

I just did a complete front end rebuild - torsion bars, offset bushings, Lower C.A. bushings, Upper/Lower Ball joints, brake hoses, tie-rod ends. Had an aftermarket sway bar already. I had it professionally aligned and have the same problem; it just feels like I'm correcting the steering a lot...

    Homemade Adjustable Strut Rods?

"I'm surprised that you're all saying adjustable struts are no benefit" After re-reading everything, that was a stupid thing to say. I'm reading and typing very quickly because I'm at work here, so I didn't get all of the details at first. I get it - Strut rods are not a caster adjustment, but...

    Homemade Adjustable Strut Rods?

Thanks all. I'm planning on keeping things mostly stock - nothing exotic here. I just want to correct whatever is wrong, replace all wear parts and have any updates that can be had on a reasonable budget for modern tires and handling. I'm going rubber on everything- no polly, .890 torsion...

    Homemade Adjustable Strut Rods?

I originally did this years ago, to one side only, because the K-member had cracked and the LCA pivot hole had to be repaired. Also I had installed poly bushings. The alignment guy had trouble for some reason getting the caster so this was a quick fix - a cobble job when I was broke and 18...
