Feel like my 440 should be faster

You’re fighting the Altitude. I swapped my Howard’s 238/238 0n 108Lsa 9.5:1 combo that would run 14.2 @ 101 (no traction)with street tires @ 1400’ after we ran at 4600 it wouldn't pull. You need a point of compression or 10-15* less duration. I went deeper 3.55- 4.30 and it was still winded...

Solid Roller camshaft selection those of you running a 408 race application - lobe seperation

I have an unused lunati 251/251 on 105 Lsa but Bullet said it was too tight of a lsa for 414 small block. Ken at Or ground me a solid on 108Lsa and Jim at Racer Brown sent me a 107 lsa. Different opinions. Schneider seems to understand Mopar and has a nice catalog of patterns. Good luck. All SFT...

Advice on my "stock" 340 build

Delta Cams in Wa. provided a set of hydraulic lifters for my small block build and they worked out well. Also they refaced some edm Howards solid lifters for me with good results.

    340 or 408?

May I inquire into your oiling system. What does it take to keep the rod bearings alive in your set up. I lost #7 on my 340 some years ago. After it was rebuilt it survived plenty of 6700 rpm pulls street racing, yet I lacked confidence in camming it up more. Surely your spinning your...

    273 Rockers with roller cam

Thanks for the response. When I asked my machinist about using the 273 rockers with a roller cam he said that the spring pressure required to maintain control would steer him away from using them.

Rear end advice for racing with a 4 speed

That goes without saying, yet when abrasive blades are used to cut they create heat annealing the surface area within the heat affected zone. Next time I narrow an 8 3/4 I'd prefer to order custom axles from Mosier.

Rear end advice for racing with a 4 speed

I believe you have a good point about hardening the axle after re-splining them. I’ve never understood the concept of these cut to fit axles that are sold on the Internet.

Rear end advice for racing with a 4 speed

    ~450hp from stock stroke 340?

Newbomb, Thank you for enlightening me: My comments were not intended to be misleading, they come from following Larry Shepard's Book. On my budget I follow his recommended cylinder head compression ratio combinations. Swapping the Speedmaster 2.02 aluminum heads for (New Zealand) EQ 318B...

    ~450hp from stock stroke 340?

Aluminum heads are absorbing compression because they’re a heat sink. If your static is 10.5:1 your cam choice should be in the 9.5-10:1 range. The crate motors made power because the came equipped with cast iron heads flowing 25 more cfm than the J head untouched.

    3.91s in my 340 now!

3.91 gears are a good balance of ratio and MPH, but the tire size will play into your 1/4 mile time. I run those gears with a 365 4spd and found that a 26" tire is a handy cap for mph. 3.55 gear ratio pulls a better mph by 3.5 mph but a 1/3 second slower et.
