@nm9stheham, I think you may have mentioned on the Speedmaster thread about checking the deck clearance, and low and behold there is .015 difference per side. One is at .010, the other at .025, and that's checking 3x and zeroing accordingly each time. So is this typical in production motors?

Just so happened I was on their website and noticed that there are 2 styles, and one is for adjustable valve train. But from what I've read Johnsons is pretty good brand.

On the guides, it was on the J-heads...... I'm switching to a new set of aluminum heads. Which is a splurge, but I figured rebuilding the heads would be 500-700 and the new AL heads are $1000. As far as balancing. Yea, they're allot of questions to answer. Its a CAST crank motor for sure...

Any news on the trick flow heads? After checking out speedmasters heads and seeing the new trick flow's coming out, I'm curious about price vs. quality and peace of mind.

So checking out Speedmaster website, on the assembled heads, there are 3 versions it seems. Ranging from apx. $1200 to $1800 in price. Will the $1200 version be ok for a 400hp '73 340 with 2316 pistons?

I read it just a few weeks ago...go figure. I did read the recent 340 stock build in Hotrod, but the springs are $160, not including retainers. I thought the thread here mentioned that the LS spring they used was like $60. My cup of tea! LOL.

I read somewhere on here before, that there is a good quality and relatively cheap LS beehive spring swap that can be done for moderate valve lift, under .500". I couldn't find it in the search engine, but was wondering if anyone knew the numbers or applications. I'm reconditioning a 73 340...

Well, just for a street motor. Was thinking of selling them. Manly SS valves, big block sized springs, etc. I picked up a set of fresh x heads and 340, so probably won't need them.

I picked up a set of '77 810 casting w2 econo's last year. Heads, rocker set, intake. A few of the rockers need reconditioned. I think these are long valve versions econo's. I took a pair of valves out and they were longer than stock 340. Had I known this, I probably would have passed on...

I picked up an old set of DC econo-W2's with rocker arms last year. Just wanted them for a street motor. Needed a couple of replacement rocker arms. They can be pricey when you add them all up. Yikes.

Nice clean set of 4 mag hubcaps. Not perfect, but pretty darn clean for age. All clips, etc, intact. $350 shipped in 48 states. May trade for good used outboard 440 6v carb for 71.

On the x-pipe not gaining....I wouldn't be so sure on that. I talked to Frank Remlington, who runs the PurestockDrags (blue 340 GTS), and he specifically told me that adding the X-pipe and a full mandrel bent dual exhaust (2.5) made a big difference in his times.

If you don't have one, you may grab a mopar suspension book. I'm not a racer, but have always wanted to find the right car to do some stuff with down the track. Unfortunately, they tore down the track here in Kansas City, thanks to a bunch of complainers.
