Hauling Capacity of the 1971 Dodge Dart

So our contractor calls me yesterday from Lowe's and tells me they do not have our new toilet for him to pick up (we're 3/4 of the way through a bathroom remodel). I come home, change cars and run over to Lowe's with 1. a printed copy of the entire Lowes.com Internet product order we placed, and...

    Black vinyl top or not

Thanks, Brother; it's the B5 Bright Metallic Blue, original to the car.

    Black vinyl top or not

Personal opinion is to put it back on; it was part of the original look of the car and IMHO belongs there.

    Will this buff out?

You know, it really should. It's all about using the right buffer pad and polishing compound.

Is it a GT or a regular Dart in GT trim ?

My Dart is a 1971 GT and as such has the "A65" code numbers on the fender tag. You're right, the GT meant the buckets and center console were standard on these Darts, as opposed to the Swinger package which has the bench seat and column shifter.

What was the ultimate "normal production" factory A Body?

The 1970 340 ci four barrel Dodge Dart Swinger I drove as a 16 year old in 1974 to high school. That car, even with the three speed auto, was as balanced and fast a car as I ever drove. Later when I drove the police package 440s for work as a PSP Trooper, they were great in a straight line but...

My AACA Car Club Chapter had an opportunity to tour a private car collection here in Tennessee on Saturday, September 22, 2012. Here are some videos I took during the tour: #3 Just inside main entrance - YouTube #4 Looking @ Diner and towards front entrance - YouTube #5 Hemi Cuda - YouTube...

    Found a neat C body

Rescue it if you can, please. Hate to see those cars scrapped. This one is darn near identical to one my grandfather had and took us for rides in.

    Hating the new dart

Roger that, I know my Dad is coming but I may bring my Bride as well. What restaurants are down that way to grab something to eat? It's been forever since I was down there. My Bride's family is from West Hempfield and lived on Monkey Wrench Road, plus I used to patrol down that way while on...

    Hating the new dart

Took these Sunday afternoon when I stopped by the local Dodge dealership to see if any of the new Darts had arrived. I found one and took a quick look at it.

    Sad Roadrunner

I'll have to run back up there and take a better look @ it, my visit yesterday was brief due to time constraints. I'm tempted to fire up my Dart and run it up there to show him, one Car Guy to another, and get him to talk about his Road Runner.

    Sad Roadrunner

Not an A Body, but I've driven past this several times and finally stopped and knocked on the door of the house to ask if the owner minded me taking a few photos of it. A young woman answered the door and said the car was her Dad's first car, but he was dying of cancer and didn't have the money...

    Who likes burnout videos?

Believe me, when I worked Uniformed Patrol I really tried to be reasonable with motorists I stopped. So many times I'd stop them for a moving traffic infraction/violation, and once I did found other violations present of an administrative nature, i.e., failure to report change of address...

    Oddball 1970 Dart GT Find....

My '71 Dart GT was born with a 318 according to the fender tag, but it now has a '72 casting 340 in it. An old Chrysler dealership mechanic (he and the dealership were both old) told me the '72 340 ci in my Dart was in all probability a dealership crate engine they kept on hand in case anyone...

    Oddball 1970 Dart GT Find....

Interesting find. I see it has no console in it, as it was equipped with a column shift. The police car theory sounds appropriate, especially in light of the roof reinforcement option which could have been meant to support the added weight of a bar light or dome roof light. Mine is a Dart GT...
