    Here we go again. LOL

    rear end question

Well a steeper gear set for example drag racing would be like a 4.56 and a highway set would be like a 3.23. If you pull the 3rd member it will tell you the ratio on the outside edge of the ring gear.

    rear end question

The problem with the 741 case is gear selection. I would pull the 3rd member to see if it's a sure grip. It might have a spool in it or even a lincoln locker.

    360 truck rear-end compatible?

xactly. Custom axles are only a little bit more money. I don't want to open a can of worms, but a ford 9" if built right is very strong. They are also everywhere and offer many more gear ratios. There is also a cheap disc brake upgrade using an 8.8 rear disc brakes from an explorer (same...

    360 truck rear-end compatible?

If you don't want to have a housing narrowed then you could find a 9" from an early bronco. They are the same width as an A body, but you have to move the spring perchs. A few guys on here have used ford 8.8 rears in their abodies from explorers also, because they are dirt cheap.

    360 truck rear-end compatible?

Many trucks came with 8 3/4 rears in the late 60's early 70's. Here is one in my 73 W100

    Re-splined axles

I was going to do the same for my 9", but after talking to the guys at Dutchman axle I went with a new custom set. After shipping and paying them to machine them I decided it was not worth it so I went with new. They claim that the alloys now are better.

Highway RPM with the 200R4. Gotta love it!

You suck. Really nice work, now you have me thinking again.

    price to narrow a B body 8 1/4 rear

That is insane if you ask me. Does it come with new axles? Even then it's way too much if you ask me. I have done a few and would charge about 1/4 of that price.

    Dodge Dakota rear ends....

What do you have now? 7 1/4? If so why not look for an A body 8 1/4? The can handle a fair amount of power and are way beefier than the 7 1/4?

    Dodge Dakota rear ends....

Look for an 8.8 if you are on a budget. Lots of aftermarket parts for them and many of them came with disc brakes and limited slip under explorers. There are a couple of threads on here.

    Rebuilt 904. Whirring. Dead?

Sorry to hear about your trans. Which Trans-go kit did he install? TF-2? Why do you say that he modified it? I'm sure that Tracy Aka Fishy68 or one of the other transmission guys will chime in soon.

    Dakota

The dodge 1/2 ton truck used an 8 3/4 in them before 73 I believe. Since then it has mostly been 9.25

8 3/4 geared to low. Whats compatable?

I have an open 741 3rd member with 3.23 gears that I would send to you for cheap. Gears are like new. PM me if interested. You can honestly swap 3rd members in your driveway in a couple of hours.

    JeepCJ 5 rearend?

Where are you located? I have a complete 8 1/4 A body rear that I would let go for cheap.

    New stall or balanced flywheel?

+1 Here is the one that I am installing for my 318-360 swap. I am in the same situation as you, but my engine builder balanced my crank with the flex plate and new damper installed. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BMM-10239/

    Why a new crush sleeve?

I always just retorque, but make sure not to crush the sleeve any further. As long as the pinion depth and back lash look alright.

    How low are 355 gears

Tire size and converter stall will be in the equation also.

Eaton Detroit Truetrac or Auburn Pro Series Limited Slip

Going in a stout street car. 72 Cuda' 6.1 Hemi with Keisler 5 speed and 3.55 gears. It's going in a 489 case in an 8 3/4 housing. This car will not see any track time, but occasional street fight. Anyone running either one of these? I know that the Detroit Truetrac is quiet, unlike the...

    741 Questions

Fishy is right on the money as usual. I would pull the 3rd member and check wear pattern and preload, because you have issues if you have movement in the pinion. You should have a little bit of backlash, but the only way to check it is to pull the 3rd member. So all you did was remove the...

    rear ends to choose from?

I did a big bearing 9" in mine because I couldn't find an 8 3/4 around here in the bolt pattern that I needed. I did already have the 9" for another project. I narrowed it myself, ordered custom axles, detroit locker and 3.89 gears. I even installed rear disc brakes from a explorer with an...
