    Chugging/vibration/noise at highway speed

Took it for a highway cruise. Dropped it in neutral, vibration continues in neutral. Seems to be in the front end and the drive train. Noticed the hood shaking in neutral at 60 mph engine idle. I also dropped it into 1st gear from a stop and ran it at 40mph at 4000 RPM for a few blocks, no...

    Chugging/vibration/noise at highway speed

It's more of a whomp whomp for sure. I need to get it into a shop to have it looked over. The money pit never ends does it?

    Chugging/vibration/noise at highway speed

I believe they are correct, we reused the ones that were on the engine prior to the rebuild. Dampner hasn't spun, it's still pointing to TDC for #1.

    Chugging/vibration/noise at highway speed

Pretty sure it's not cupped tires. I know that sound well, having dealt with it on another vehicle.

    Chugging/vibration/noise at highway speed

Correct, I haven't tried dropping it into neutral at highway speed though. That should tell me a lot I think.

    Chugging/vibration/noise at highway speed

I was thinking that I should do something with the u joints for sure. I bet they are original and have never been changed. The 904 sounds great, no whining or smell to the fluid. I did change the fluid in the rear end when I got the car 3 years ago, that old gear oil smelled like death, it had...

    Chugging/vibration/noise at highway speed

1974 Dodge Dart Swinger. Newly rebuilt 360 bored .030" turning a bone stock 904 and 7 1/4 stock rear end. So, you can read about my rebuild of the 360 in the forums. It went well, we've been driving it a lot and I really like the power it's putting out, but I think it's leaving something on the...

What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

and it went pop pop BANG!. Timing is way off. I'm thinking it's the old 180 degree dizzy problem I've read about. I'll check #1 is on the compression stroke tomorrow and see where the distributor is pointing. I for sure have fuel, spark and compression. Can't make a bang that loud without those...

You have to be INSANE to have long-tube headers on a big-block A-body Mopar!

I feel for you. I inherited a set of ceramic coated Hooker long tubes on my 74 Dart. The drivers side are destroyed, steering box knuckle wore right through one tube and the lowest tube is wore right through from rubbing various speed bumps, curbs, etc. I can't tell you how many times I cursed...

Whats the most you spent on junk?

I did exactly the same thing when I bought my 74. It's nice and solid underneath.

Whats the most you spent on junk?

My first Dart a 1972 Swinger that was running, I drove it home. Started taking it apart to see how bad it was. Time I got to the fame and couldn't lift it by the rails because they were rotted through, I gave up on it. Paid $2000 sold it for parts and ended up with $750.

The time social media was used for good

The truck and trailer were reported stolen. No one happened to catch a picture of the driver. They are probably looking for a enclosed trailer to try again.

The time social media was used for good

This happened in Calgary a few weeks ago on Facebook of all places. Someone stole a guys 1970 Charger Daytona from his back yard. There were so many people posting sightings of it that the dirtbags that stole it dumped it on a gravel road just out of town. First time I ever saw real goodness...

What Are You Doing To/With Your Car Today?

Drilled 4 1/8" holes in the hood for the scoops to actually work. Ordered the rubber gaskets to fit in the holes. Tried to install gaskets in the flange from the headers but I bought the wrong size, thinking the pipes at the back end are 2 1/2" so the front end would be the same. Nope they are...

What to check after a few hundred miles on a rebuilt engine?

Thanks, I've been thinking about replacing the fuel pump for an electric one. To be clear, the engine was rebuilt sometime since 1984. It has not been run since this spring. We bought the car non-running and with the help of my friends here at FABO my son and I got it running. It still had...

What to check after a few hundred miles on a rebuilt engine?

I did that after the first 50 mile oil change. It had some of the standard break-in kind of powdered bits from the cylinder walls, but nothing larger than that in it.

What to check after a few hundred miles on a rebuilt engine?

I'll attach a picture of where it's leaking from, hopefully it makes sense. This is the drivers side back of the engine, right in the most impossible place to reach because of the headers. I don't believe it's coming from the valve covers. I wiped everything down and that bolt is the only place...

What to check after a few hundred miles on a rebuilt engine?

Hey folks, I've got a few hundred miles on my 1974 Dart that had it's first start in many years this spring. It has a rebuilt 360 sometime since 1984. I can't verify how long ago because it was 2 previous owners ago. I've checked compression on all cylinders and it's good at ~125psi. Plugs are...

Shuffling through some papers on my desk, I found this and immediately thought of this thread. It's from a car show I went to before the lockdown from a company called Atlas Obsolete Chrysler Parts based out of Murrieta California.

How to live to old age in the Mopar hobby

The only time I got into trouble was when I spent our vacation planning savings on the car. Other than that, as long as I keep using my own savings account, she doesn't see it. But yeah, I got a shed full of parts...

My eternal gratitude. Seriously thanks though. I've been crawling around the car for 6 months putting it back together and every once in while I'll grab these and try them in various places with no luck.
