    The 8 1/4 thread

Minor update - I am in the process of installing the Dana 35 items in the 8.25. As I pulled both apart, everything lines up nicely with the exception of the pinion. I looked back through this threads (Post #4) and realized there are two types of carrier bearings for the 8.25, a 2.8 and and 3.2...

    The 8 1/4 thread

Geardaddy- thank you, yes I think I am going to plug Dana 35 internal into an 8.25. I will advise as I go. I bought one with a locker, 3.73s, brakes and all the plumbing, so really if do not plug the internals in, I feel I am in a good position financially with the brakes and plumbing. I trust...

    The 8 1/4 thread

OK - so from what I understand is a Dana 35 locker will work in a 8.25? Do you use the entire center carrier or only the locker when moving it to the 8.25? explain please What is the year cut off for a Dana 35 to go from 27 spline to 30 spline? --- I Believe for an 8.25 it is 1996...

    USCT Crossmember for 518

Dewsky - I seen 318's and 360's bolted to 46RH's without issue, so do not believe you need any special balancing - unless it is not stock (re-balanced from a shop at rebuild)

    489 question - 10 spline vs 29 spline

Question - I have a 489 case with factory 10 spline gear set. Yukon has a 29 spline bearing set - question is can I use it? Shouldn't a 489 set generally be the same? Could I use a 29 spline gear set with a new yoke, or is there something special between the two? So If I sold my gear set, I...

    7 1/4 Sure grip?

70Duster, yea figured the definitive would be to pop the cover, really not intersted in doing that, building a Dana 60 which will replace it. Just found it intersting to find a sure-grip in a 7.25

    7 1/4 Sure grip?

OK, I have a 7 1/4 in my 71 Dart Swinger. Was a /6 904 car and I have no fender tag or build sheet. So I thought it was a going to be a one-legger. However when I took it out it spun both wheels - multiple times. Put it up on a stand and and sure enough it spin one the other would spin and...

    Dana 60?

All, Thanks for the post, Cracke - thank you, good insight. Again, this was just a pondering and looking at it through a budget side, if I had the cash Strange would be the route. As for the weight, yes agree abit much and gearing would be decided based on the vehicle build. Was reading a...

    Dana 60?

OK all, I am pondering this issue. I see on CL a lot of truck Dana 60's, some with Sure-grips and 4:10's for $100 to $200. My question is this. If I bought the rear end, had it narrowed to A-body length ($100) buy moser axles ($400) and then summit rear disc conversion kit ($500). I see a...
