    Shipping LCA's via USPS

I see some great and some seriously lame packing efforts at my shop. Most shipping damage happens when parts are shoved into a too-small box to save a couple bucks. Avoiding the "three inches of collapsible material on all sides of the item being shipped" will cancel out any insurance you might...

Magazine cars. How many on the forum?

Count me in. I didn't get the cover of the May 2011 issue of Auto Enthusiast but had a couple pics and an article. Most people who read it thought Billy built my car but I'd already owned it for 12 years when we met.

SMS Auto not responding and now closed

After seeing this ... ... and having none of the menu options operable, I'd be contacting this place before too much time passes. Most District Attorneys offices have internet fraud divisions.

    POWDER COATING COST

It is. Getting fabulous results that last for decades isn't. I went to that guy's next suggested video on "proper prep." Seeing a dirty, unblasted piece of metal hanging up with tape on the threads 'ready to coat' was all I needed to see. You can teach anyone how to do anything. Teaching them...

    POWDER COATING COST

Thanks for that :D but @69conv's stuff just got here yesterday. I'm currently working on a big job that just got its first color last night. There are two other arrivals in between so it will be a bit.

    POWDER COATING COST

Thanks for the kind write up @toolmanmike! It's impossible to quote any job without good photos of the parts because no two are the same in terms of condition, cleanliness, color scheme, etc. Though other opinions may differ, I don't believe the guy who chucks his tranny pan in a box with...

    BigBoy 68

I donated a PSC Gift Certificate to a FABO Benefit Auction after dismissing him as a customer. I learned a few days later that BB68 (then under the user name SuperDart426) had privately contacted another longstanding member here with a request that he bid on my Gift Certificate -- secretly on...

    BigBoy 68

Simply to clarify, I never send parts home to anybody without payment so that part is not true. I did get used as a parts warehouse more than once though due to his habit of selling stuff to people before they even hit my bench for restoration. "Impatience" is too light of a word in my opinion...

    C'mon man

Uhhhh, those column collars are pot metal while the rest of the assembly is steel. I hope your coater is equipped with knowledge and experience to return well finished parts instead of ruined, bubbled metal and an apology.

    What's a fair price to ....

Many factors play into a quote with metal condition being the most important, at least to me. In a rural setting your choices will be more limited than a larger metro area where competition will basically set the price. Of course cost will be YOUR main concern but if you get them done for $50...

GLASS BEADING INSIDE OF VALVE COVERS AND OIL PANS

Glass bead has its uses but doesn't provide enough "tooth" on the metal for my powders to last decades. You might be surprised how many shops simply "blow it off" after blasting instead of actually washing parts. The amount of grunge in the sink that comes off with industrial cleaner and a...

Check out my sweet Ebay score!! Anybody ever see these before??

Thanks for the mentions guys! I have a few pics. One was really oxidized but it didn't hurt the aluminum. He opted for Hemi Orange and black with aftermarket orange metalflake added. This is the first set off my bench with a 2-tone black. It's intriguing how most shown in the thread are...

    Mopar RTV FTW

That made me laugh out loud! Reinstalling dozens of Commando valve cover fins over the years, I always think I'm clean ... and find that $hit all over me later. For the record, I like Permatex.

    71 340 AIR CLEANER PAINT

I just ran across your gracious comments a couple nights ago Karl! The air cleaner -- and that famous Spot Check lol [fans love that picture too!!!] -- made me smile all over again. Air Gap intake back form media blast.. clear.. paint or run as-is?

Thanks for the mentions!! Unless it's outgassed first, just painting or clearing a used intake will hide The Ugly for awhile but all the embedded impurities, old fuel stains and oil will return after some heat cycles ... and now will be permanently trapped and on full display on your engine.

    Intake Manifold Shipping

The FedEx volume discount I get is passed on to customers so others may vary, but $60 is probably a decent average for the ones I ship. They're around 20-24 pounds usually. I always insure shipments for original market value plus my metal finishing cost (so customers are covered for everything...

@dodgedifferent2, I won't assume you know anything about the 70s so let History.com explain how a few "insurrectionist" truck drivers were able to make a real impact on government and effect change. When Truckers Shut Down America to Protest Oil Prices—and Became Folk Heroes Wake up.

Before bashing a business do a little research

Your chivalry is appreciated <hug> but I'm too Old School to get offended. :D After a couple years of this, it seems a lot of places are simply using covid as an excuse not to do much, and to put too much off into the unknown future by shifting the blame to others ("I don't know when we'll get...
