Check mounts as stated. U joints good? Also check adjustment of kick down linkage. I say u joints because from a dead stop there is more load plus variance of pinion angle.

With green bearings did you remove the centering pin or block in the sure grip ?

May be just the angle of the photo but the font of the 1997 appears different than the rest to me. Maybe it was rebuilt in 1997 and the rebuilder stamped it to verify for warranty or something. But that’s just a guess on my part.

Easiest place to start are the torque converter to flex plate bolts. If loose or wrong type bolt they will hit things. Also make sure the tans inspection cover isn’t loose or hitting bolts also.

I have to agree with oldkimmer. From the way it reads you converted to manual transmission. With the pinion angle above trans angle when you back the car up the pinion rotates down to be in a more direct line with trans that could be causing a bind and things will not be happy.

Picture of rear end from driveshaft side and back would help identify what housing. If there’s a cover on back held in place with bolts it is not 8 3/4. Depending on if sure grip etc there are ways to come close on ratio.

Got any pictures? Not being smart did you install the flex plate correctly? If it’s flipped it will push the converter back a significant amount. As stated that’s a big change in the dimension.

As a wild guess, I’d look at the 8.75 replacement seals. Most axle and housings are a copy of the originals. But as I said that’s a guess as it uses factory style housing ends.

Did this occur before the new axles? Could be some type of locker. Spool will not free up for part of a turn. It’s always possible that someone welded the spider gears and the weld has come loose. Hate to say the only way to know for sure is pull the pumpkin and look.

This sounds to me like it’s got a TV (kick down) linkage problem. I’d go over my linkage to ensure it’s operating as it should. Could be binding or just simply not adjusted correctly. Why spend money when you could end up with it doing the same thing after rebuild due to another issue.

If your seal has the "dust boot", I've used the lid off a spray paint can with duct tape wrapped around it. It'll slide snugly over the dust boot.

"Do Dana 60's clear the factory A-body gas tank?" It clears on my Demon. With the stock style cover. Don't know about other covers.

Make sure the "buttons" are still in the center where the axles go in for the lash adjustment.
