If you take them off and leave them off, the surrounding paint will have oxidized, so in reality, you would still see a big difference in the paint

pop rivets for a transmission hump?

I would use screws over rivets just so it can be removed down the road easily when a problem arises... Been done this way for years. I've done this as well as making my own rubber gasket for the tunnel

The new norm, flat / no shine colors.......

The only reason the hood of my Signet has a flat sheen to it is because I couldn't find the color code to the black paint I used 25 years back when I painted it, so I just got some black and deadened the clear coat. The hood had small dents and after I had it repaired, I had primer spots which I...

2 paint or not to paint

Back 25 or so years ago my 64 Signet was black and beautiful with a few spots worn through. I painted it, paint today is still beautiful with a couple worn spots yet not as worn as the original paint... Whatever you decide, do it right.....

    Wax....

Tell you the truth, I think all Carnuba Wax sucks for longevity no matter which manufacturer. I used Meguiar's for many years, I even took a class from them back in the mid 80's when they had more than just wax and glaze. I use the clay bar occasionally and a glaze when I need quick gloss...

What is this type of car called?

Roadsters were and are basically vehicles without roll-up windows and were manufactured by many car companies. Convertibles do have roll-up windows and Cabriolets had roll-up windows with a structural mass. California cruisers of the 50's and up are vehicles which many chopped or just removed a...

Anyone built a 6 pack hood plenum?

Though not the same, I built this one for my 64 Signet which enclosed the air cleaner. You can basically do the same for your type and using rubber moulding to meet the under hood so no air escapes from your scoop to carburetors. Hope this helps

What paint to use for engine bay?

The only way you will have clear coat issues is if the preparation for paint is done by a 5 year old toddler. Painting the engine bay any other color than the exterior of the car is showing how one's ability is to screw things up.

I hate rust repair ------ Yeaaaaaaaa!

My 64 Signet came out of NuYawk with 62K on the odometer and it was a rust free car, bought it in the early 80's. Most NuYawkers have garages and not storage facilities where their car should be like they do on the Left coast. And to top it off, I'd rather repair a couple rust spots than replace...
