Burnt, warp, or sticking exhaust Valve? I had a 318 slowly work into a shake and found that an exhaust valve was burnt. It seem to run ok above 2500 rpms, then at an idle would shake like it was about to fall apart... I could feel the power loss, and it would have like a miss to it when driving.

Yep!

340, The 340 has a larger bore then the 360 and has a shorter stroke which can make for a quicker rev!

Not a 318 however its a Chrysler engine that runs on water! :-D

If all else fails as mentioned above try another gas station. The stations tanks may contain more moisture then some others. My old Dart will ping using a couple of the local stations in my area and not a problem with my fuel injection cars due to the FI computer adjusting!

I would try a higher octane gas! My stock 318 gets spark knock from some stations lower octane!

I had a friend who had a problem blowing head gaskets, turn out some dirt had fallen into where the head bolts go and was giving a false torque reading! they now run a tap thru everything once the engine comes back from the hot tank to clean them out!

I figured there was a difference in the bolts, I wasnt aware of the Oiling system difference. Thanks for the input!

By chance do you know what car your 340 came in orig? If your lucky it could be a Six Pack engine although rare! I believe they came with some factory upgrades, someone correct me if Im wrong!

I would guess it is the fuel pump. I had a new (rebuilt autozone) do the same thing just after a couple months use!

You will need to change out the K-member or buy after market motor mounts to allow your Big Block to fit your Six cyl or Small block K-member depending on which engine your car has in it! Also a big block tranny and A-body exuast manifolds or headers will be needed.
