Mexican Spec 1966 Valiant Convertible 4 Speed

I can console myself with the fact that there are more out there.

Mexican Spec 1966 Valiant Convertible 4 Speed

I don't think, for example, a 1979 Super Bee from Mexico would pass since we didn't have any of that Lean Burn or any other smog crap on the engine. I am sure it would pass on the emissions itself, but it would fail on the equipment portion of the test.

Mexican Spec 1966 Valiant Convertible 4 Speed

Yes the EPA has a 25 year exemption. In some states you won't be able to smog it though.

Mexican Spec 1966 Valiant Convertible 4 Speed

Sure they can. You just need to fill out the right forms and it needs to be over 25 years old. If you need help with that let me know.

The Barracuda grille was used on the Acapulco editions. Those were comparable to the Signet edition in the US.

They were sold under the Chrysler brand. I have a 1974 Chrysler Dart sedan that has the Dodge front end and Plymouth rear end.

Mexican Spec 1966 Valiant Convertible 4 Speed

I am picturing this car was a V8, the Barracuda grille and dual exhaust out the back to hear that engine. That would have been a really fun car.

I completely agree but it was last year and I wasn't leaving the house.

Mexican Spec 1966 Valiant Convertible 4 Speed

I am kicking myself for not buying this car when it was for sale. This is a slant 6 with a factory 4 speed on the floor. Seeing a factory convertible in Mexico is super rare as well. They wanted $3000 US for this car. Just imagine what this car could have been.

1965 Mexican Spec Plymouth Valiant Acapulco

I didn't know they were exported to Europe at that time. I guess I will have to say we were the only ones to get that speedo in North America.

    Thank you I appreciate that.

1965 Mexican Spec Plymouth Valiant Acapulco

I have seen quite a few of them for sale. I posted a convertible a while back that had the factory manual on the floor.

Some Dodge pieces were used on these. The wheel covers are correct for this car although I am not sure if they should or should not have the spinner. I am not sure about the moldings though.

The higher numbers do look interesting if you are used to speedos in MPH. Mexico was the only place you would find KPH on the speedos in this year so they are somewhat special.

1965 Mexican Spec Plymouth Valiant Acapulco

I am not sure about all, but some. They had to offer some options over the base model. In the US they had V8 engines and air conditioning and other options not offered here.

You are right, I didn't see that. Some of these Acapulcos got a floor shift with bucket seats.

1965 Mexican Spec Plymouth Valiant Acapulco

On that point I am going to guess they didn't want to dilute the specialness of the Barracuda. The Barracuda was also sold here but with a slant 6 so they were basically the same car.

1965 Mexican Spec Plymouth Valiant Acapulco

This is the top of the line Valiant for 1965. They called it an Acapulco and it was the same level as the Signet. This is a slant 6 car and I know it has a manual, but I don't know if it is a 3 on the tree or if it is a floor shift. Look at the picture with the speedometer, which shows...

1965 Mexican Spec Plymouth Valiant Acapulco Convertible

    It is a slant 6 though. Mexico didn't put a V8 in a car until the '70's.

    Upgrading 1965 Barracuda brake lights

Not to take anything away from making your '65 Valiants into modern cars, but I have found if you put aluminum foil behind the bulb glued to the base to reflect the light better it brightens the bulb enough. I had to do that on a '75 Dart to be able to see the brake light. I amnot sure if...
