    Edelbrock Performer RPM

If your 340 isn't running big horsepower, you'll be hard pressed to beat the smooth performance of your current LD340.

    Carter, Edelbrock, or Holley?

I've run Carter 600 AFB carbs for many years, and they are hard to beat on an everyday driver. They start and run smoothly under almost any conditions, and you very seldom have to touch them after you get them set up for your particular application. However, if you want to bring home some...

    Which carb should I get?

For consistently smooth street operation it's pretty hard to beat the Edlebrock 600 cfm, especially on a 318. I prefer the Holleys for the strip though.

    baffled over intakes . . .

Over caming and over carbing are the worst possible scenarios for reliable, comfortable, stree driving. Stick with the dual plane mainfold and about 650 cfm carb for the street. That Torker manifold and a 750 cfm carb on a 318 will be a real threat to your sanity.

    Regretting Rejetting- 72 340 TQ Metering Rods/Jets

http://www.carburetor-manual.com/ Have a look here, and you should find the manual. It's been too many years since I did mine to remember any of the original parta numbers. I believe the Edlebrock site might also have some info on the Carter carbs. Oh, and welcome to the site.

Pre Bent Fuel Line and Sub Frame Connectors

I guess you'd almost have to run it to the outside of the connector, or drill a hole and run it through the connector at some point.

Pre Bent Fuel Line and Sub Frame Connectors

I can't help you with your question because I haven't installed my connectors or fuel lines yet, but here's a bump to the top. :)

    Choke vs. No Choke

If your choke is set up properly you wont loose any power, especially on a street driven car. Trying to run without a choke in Canada is a major frustration waiting to happen. Listen to your dad. :)

64 1 barrel carter rebuld kit

Actually, NAPA should still be able to get a rebuild kit for you I believe. You'll need the numbers from the carb to order.

    Double pumper with automatic

If that DP'er is working for you, leave it alone. I've run both vac and DP with both auto and stick cars, and every combo is different. Generally speaking, the DP carbs work best with a manual tranny, but when one works good with an auto, don't mess with it. You could go from being a happy...

    Fuel spillage

This is a problem with some of the early A's. There is a vent line that runs up the side of the fuel filler neck then out around the left inner fenderwell that will plug up sometimes. Make sure it is venting properly.

    340 4bbl intake on a 318

I'll have to agree with mr.318 on this one. I ran a 340 stock type 4-bbl intake on a heated up 318 for about 10 years, with a Carter AFB 625 carb, and it ran like a scalded rabbit. It had good low end torque, good smooth mid-range, and lots of top end power.

    Fuel issues at startup

That's a pretty common situation with the AFB and today's junk fuel, atlhough it normally takes longer than half a day to evaporate the fuel from the carb. I'd suspect maybe a fuel leak somewhere.
  14. OldVart

    fuel drainback

That's pretty well a standard thing with the Carter AFB and today's junk fuel. The fuel will evaporate over a period of time and you have to give it a few cranks and pumps to fill it up again. I run a small electric fuel pump on a manual switch, which helps a lot.

    Pulling my hair out

Ditching that carb would probably be a mistake. Once you get the fine tuning done on a Carter, it will run trouble free for years, but like anything else related to the running of the car, it has to be fine tuned. Have a look and read at this site and maybe you can get some more insight into...

    Pulling my hair out

Did this hesitation manifest itself before or after you rebuilt the accellerator pump / carb? Just trying to narrow down the possibilities here. It sounds like you have a Carter AFB 626 CFM there.

    Pulling my hair out

Try changing the stroke on your accelerator pump and see if that causes any more stumble or if it lessens the hesitation.

    carter afb 3611s

Welcome aboard hpmopar. That particular carb was used mainly on the 1964 383, 413, and 426 wedge HP engines, but I haven't been able to find an actual CFM rating for it. There's rebuild kits and parts available at several locations. If memory serves me correctly, most of the AFB series at that...

Alright Holley guys, build me a 650 D/P

I'm with Sanguine on this one. :) I love my Carter AFB I've had on my car for the past 20+ years. On a more serious note, Goody, do you think a double-pumper is a wise choice for your combination? Usually a vac. secondary carb is preferred with an automatic tranny, especially on a small block...

    OEM carb question

The AFB is probably one of the best street carbs of the bunch. Once you get them set up for your engine, close the hood and forget about them, has been my experience. The Thermoquad is an excellent street carb, but can be a lot more work to get running just right, and the Q-jet was never one of...

    Holley tuning??

If you're running an automatic tranny, you shouldn't probably be running a double pumper Holley. That Edelbrock 750 is more than enough carb for your 360, and "in my personal opinion", a much better daily driver carb than any of the Holley's. Set up the Edelbrock for your engine and leave it...

    dart gets a new holley

68gts340, you might want to keep an eye on that Accell dual point dizzy. They were famous (infamous?) for very bad bushings. I ran a couple of them on street/strip Chivvies years ago, and some of my buddies ran them on Chivvies and Mopars, and we all had the same problems with them. If your ride...

    15 Gallon Tank?

Ace, have you checked to see if that tank has a big dent in it? I don't remember what the official capicity is supposed to be, but I've had a few Duster/Demon cars, and I'm sure they held more than 15 gals, and that's Imperial gallons, even biger than your US gallons.

    Broken throttle cable question

Justcruisin, did this bog just start after you put the new air filter on there, and what kind of a filter is it? You may be blocking a vent or causing some other problem with the new filter. Have any photos of your rides that you can post? We all LOVE pictures. :) Good luck.

    Bigger carb?

I agree with 340mopar. With the parts combination you have, that carb is plenty big enough.

Which Intake LD4B or Air Gap

That's a good combination of parts for that 318 caveman. I ran a similar combo in the 66 Vart for about 10 years, and even with the 2.76 gears it would still rumble pretty good. Those 2.76's made for a scary top end run. :) I'm still running the Carter AFB on the 360 and to me it's a great...

    Hood clearance 68 Barracuda

Krazed, I'm like you, I love my old LD340 but don't know the height difference between it and the stock intake. I don't believe there's a big difference. Here's my 360 with the LD340, AFB, and Moroso 14" air cleaner, and I still have a "little" space left before I hit the inside of the hood :)

    Hood clearance 68 Barracuda

Longgone I know what you mean about the snowball effect, it never seems to end. I'm using an older Edlebrock LD340 mainfold on the 360 in my 66. According to Edlebrock, it works as good as the new RPM manifolds and I don't have any hood clearance problems, even with the tight 66 engine compartment.

    Hood clearance 68 Barracuda

Longgone, if you measure the hood clearance you have now, then go to the web sites for the different manifold manufacturers, they usually give the height of their respective manifolds. With the info on your current manifold, and on any manifold you're considering purchasing, you should be able...

    CRAP....car won't run now

I agree. It sounds like a plugged fuel line/filter, or a bad fuel pump. They normally give some warning but sometimes they just up and quit on you, usually at the worst possible time and in Friday afternoon stop-and-go traffic.
