Cam recomendaton for low compression 400???

I have the Comp 274 Extreme with a 110 lsa in mg 7.8/1 compression 440. 915 heads, Shumacher headers and 3000 stall it runs 12.41 in the 1/4. I am very happy with it. The 110 lsa helps build cylinder pressure on a low comp motor.

    440 in a 68 Dart?

I'm not sure about the kick down linkage since I have a manual valve body, but my 440 Duster (same engine compartment as yours) has schumacher headers and spool mounts, and had power steering when I got it.

    440 needs to be Cool

Do you have a 26" radiator? I put a twin electric fan/shroud out of a late model LX car (Charger, Magnum, 300) on my 26" radiator and it fits perfectly. With a temp sensor stuck through the radiator it keeps my car at 180 deg.

    low buck 440 build questions.

Thanks! Here is a clip of it when I still had the rotted out glass packs on it, and echoing in the garage. Now I have Flomaster Super 44's on it and it sounds a lot better. I'll be loading it up on the trailer later this morning and can get another clip if you want to hear it.

    low buck 440 build questions.

I forgot to mention that by doing compression calculators, the results are that I'm around 8.1/1 compression.

    low buck 440 build questions.

I don't know if this is any help, I have a 76 motorhome block with .30 over pistons that are about .18 down in the hole. I have a set of 915 heads that have the larger exhaust valves, and steel shim head gaskets. It has a custom built Holley 750 sitting on an Edelbrock rpm performer manifold...

    Aluminum Water Pump Housing

I'll be curious to see what you end up with, and how you like it. I am running the 440 source housing and now I cannot hot lap my car without it overheating. Just for the record, I used their waterpump also. I am now back to a rebuilt factory pump with large fins, so I'll see how it works next...

    Aluminum Water Pump Housing

I think I am starting to agree with you on this. I bought an aluminum housing and waterpump from 440 source, and my car has ran warmer ever since. This year I am trying a remanufactured cast iron pump with larger fins in the aluminum housing to see if its better. If not, I'm going back to the...

    440 oil level

My head builder put restrictors in the oil passages in the heads to keep from over oiling the top end. He said that at high rpms you get too much oil at top, so you might be on to something Rani. I'd be worried about windage though.

    big block questions

The low compression 440 should do very well in that car if you select the right cam, and get the heads breathing good. My car is full weight and I'm about 300 lbs.

    big block questions

I have a 76 440 that's been bored .030 over. The pistons are flat and are about .17 in the hole. I do have a fresh set of 915 closed chamber heads with HP sized exhaust valves. The cam is a Comp Xtreme 274 and so far my Duster has gone 12.69 @ 105 in the quarter. I feel that's pretty good for an...

low comp 440 cam choice help

I have a low compression 440 that I just put a comp extreme energy 278 cam in it. It's on a 110 lsa to help build cylinder pressure, and a 106 centerline. It's running 12.9 in the quarter so far running really rich. I'm guessing it will drop another 4 tenths once tuned.

    440 motor

I have a 76 block in mine. I was told that the later blocks tend to be better only because there is a rib that runs along the side below the heads that adds a little strength to the block. I have no idea if that's true or not, just was what I was told. I already had the motor, so it didn't help...

    1967 915 heads any good?

I have 915 heads on my car. Wanting to learn more about them I found this info at Mopar Muscle Magazine. Factory Castings Since the 1967-78 heads are the most readily available, and the most commonly used in street performance applications, we will limit our discussion to these heads. The...

How to find the compression ratio on my "Mystery Motor"?

A small amount of history: I have a 440 with a date stamp of 76. When I bought the car the only thing I knew for sure about it was, it had a set of 915 heads (in unknown condition) and it was suppose to have been rebuilt (unknown date). This week I pulled the motor out and started tearing it...

The mono leafs feel great. I don't have a lot of experience any other way on an older car though! The front end pics up and stays up all the way down the track. Dan, Kranzberries buddy has them on his 10 sec. Demon and never slips a tire, and he is only running a 275 tire. By the way Roy, if...

Show Your Big Block A body!

Here is mine. This is the day I bought the car. It was set up to be a show car and sat very low to the ground. It looked awesome, but it was un-driveable. It was tough getting it up on my trailer. It had rear coilovers and homemade ladder bars in the rear, and the torsion bars were...
