    Homemade Tranny Stand???

Don't need to build anything really. I've seen trannies bolted to engine stands for horizontal work. If you prefer the trans in a vertical position, put a big tapered punch in a vise on the corner of the bench and slide the trans over the punch using one of the trans to block bolt holes. There...

Mcleods 5 speed at SEMA and info update

In a few years 5 and six speed transmission will be yesterday's news for the wanna-bee's and also-ran's. By then people will have figured out how to install Mopar's 8 speed automatic using paddle shifters for changing gears. lol http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/ZF8.html I know, I know...

Mcleods 5 speed at SEMA and info update

Someone's got to be first. No real way around it. Hell look at what all the early adopters pay for electronics and computer stuff. Anyone remember the $10K price for a plasma tv back in 1999/2000 ? And how much is a ton? How much was a ton of information before making that sweet AlterK...

8 3/4 Rearend bolt size for Pinion Snubber

90* + another 10 to 15* inside the shop for 100 to 105* total. Need to get a thermometer in there. I sucked it up and got it done in the heat. Put a fan on the floor to get the air circulating. Felt much better. Bolted the snubber on and adjusted the shifter rods - I now have all 4 gears instead...

8 3/4 Rearend bolt size for Pinion Snubber

Thanks, SG. Got the bolts and lock washers. I'm still going to use some blue loctite on them. I hate putting things off but with the humidity it now feels like 90*F. At the non insulated shop I've been renting for 3 summers now, it's a good 10* to 15* hotter inside. :puke: Think I'll try for...

8 3/4 Rearend bolt size for Pinion Snubber

Old thread, but what is the length of the bolts? 1"? 1-1/4"? Also, on my 489 case it looks like there's only 2 bolts that hold it on. For some reason I thought there's supposed to be 3 holding it on. Where I got that idea from???? I'm about to install the pinion snubber that I got from...

    Whats everyone running for gears?

I'm running some street friendly 4.56 gears until I get the 5.38 gears fixed. One of the spider gears in the sure grip bit the dust and the clutches are worn out. Dr. Diff is fixing me up with the parts.... just gotta pay the man. Then I'll get some new 28x13.5x15 Mickey Thompson ET Street tires...

If you had the choice which would you choose?

I voted for the Passon 5-speed. But remember Jamie already has a four speed overdrive. You can install the guts in your case or buy a complete unit. http://www.passonperformance.com/images/stories/passon_documents/Passon_Overdrive_Flyer_20091109.pdf Wylde1.

    Sema 2010 5 Speed update

I'm waiting for Jamie Passon's 5-speed. McLeod will put out the Chevy trans first, then the Ford trans. Mopar will be down farther on the list as always. Wylde1.

    Moser vs Strange

66 dartman is talking about Moser's 8-3/4 housing. Those applications you linked to are for the Strange S60 DANA rear. Two different rears. Both will burn rubber. :burnout:  Wylde1.

    Bolts for Pinion Snubber?

Last year I bought a really nice pinion snubber from a member here (Longgone?) and I finally have the time to put it on. What size bolts do I need to bolt it to my 8-3/4, 489 case if that matters? The fastener store I use moved into the next town and I'll be in that area today. So I'll swing by...

    shure grip oil aditive

Years ago I got a bottle from my Dodge dealer. The guy told me it contains whale oil and not to get any on my hands. Otherwise the girlfriend probably wouldn't get near me for a week. He said it smells like a nasty hoo-hoo. The stuff today is probably some synthetic type of oil. Wylde1.

    Which is stronger?

From what I've read the 10 spline would be stronger. Same with an 18 spline input shaft on a manual trans being stronger than the 23 spline. So why, when it comes to axles, is a 35 or 40 spline axle stronger than a 28 or 30 spline axle? Wylde1.

Glad to hear you got it fixed. I will admit that working on our beloved money pits can be a real pain in the rear. That's when we need to step back and take a deep breath. Sometimes even walk away and concentrate on something else. This is the first summer in 6 years that I could drive my...

    Demon rear end noise

You know, I was thinking about a spool early this morning. A guy I used to work with put one in his '72 440 Challenger a few years ago and he's had no complaints with it (although he didn't upgrade the axles). You're right. You do know it's there in tight turns. But the Demon ain't no corner...

    Demon rear end noise

Thanks for the info. Isn't the Auburn sure grip the cone type often referred to as the "weak" suregrip? And then I'd still want to upgrade the axles as well. Gettin' into some serious coinage.... but if that's what it takes.... Thanks again.

    Demon rear end noise

As mentioned awhile back when I joined this site, I had finally got my '71 Demon on the road after it sitting for 5 years with some 4-speed problems. I lost interest and just let it sit. But on my first drive there was a noise coming from the 8-3/4 rear when going around a corner. Also the...
