    Shock Recommendation

To the OP I installed KYB's on my car this spring and its a huge improvement over the cheap Monroe's that I removed. There not as stiff as the others or adjustable but they cost a lot less too.

    Shock Recommendation

Upon further investigation the internal vanes determine which side of the car they go on. The rotor surface slots can go either way. Hey, I learned something today!

    Shock Recommendation

Hey Andy, is that brake rotor on the wrong side of the car? I don't have any experience with them, just wondering.

    pwr to manual steering

It was a Mopar old stock gear set I bought from a member here. The car drives well and is responsive. Not as much as a 16:1 ratio though. I would not replace the stock steering wheel with a smaller diameter wheel. With the car stopped and trying to turn the wheels to back into a parking spot...

    pwr to manual steering

I did this swap from power to manual and I used a 20:1 ratio for mine. I wanted to go to the 16:1 ratio but with wider radial tires up front I was worried about the parking difficulty and my shoulders.

    PST 16:1 manual box

What size steering wheel do you have out of curiosity? I have a 20:1 manual box with the stock steering wheel and it's tough to turn the wheel from lock to lock when you're not moving and on dry pavement. You might want to rethink a 16:1 box with radial tires. It's gonna be a ***** to park it!

    16:1 steering box

I have the 20;1 worm gear in my manual box. With the 215 65 15 tires it can be hard to turn when standing still but I have the 16" steering wheel so its not unreasonable.

    Quick ratio steering box

I had the 24:1 manual box in mine but switched it to a 20:1 worm gear. It's a lot better driving it now but a little more difficult parking or turning at low speed. I would think the 16:1 box be really hard to steer at slow or no speed.

    64 barracuda manual steering

Just installed a 20:1 ratio worm in my manual steering box in May. I like it over the 24:1 that came out of it, but a 16:1 would be way to hard on my shoulders.

    Caster Angle on Manual Steering

Thanks, looks like the offset bushings should get me in the 4.5 range on the caster. I'm going to try the steering box to k member bearing kit and the stronger tie rod end adjuster too. I also have a 20:1 ratio parts for the manual steering box. Oh, better shocks than the Monroe gas magnums...

    Caster Angle on Manual Steering

I'm thinking about redoing the front suspension on my car with new shocks and maybe some tubular UCA's. It has a factory front end with poly bushings and no anti sway bar. I'm sure that when I had it aligned 15 years ago that they just set it to the 1967 specs with very little caster. What...

    Tubular Upper Control Arms

Yes, I will go with the new alignment specs. I just need to know if the offset bushings would get me the caster and camber that they list. Or would the tubular control arms be necessary to get the 3.0 caster spec that the chart calls for.

    Tubular Upper Control Arms

I want to improve the handling of my car this winter and was thinking about changing the upper control arm bushings to the Moog offset bushings. But would I be better off just replacing the whole control arm to a tubular style to dial in more caster and camber? My car is street driven only...

confounded P/S Bracket need a second set of eyes eyes and your thoughts.

I just sold a set of early Saginaw brackets for a cast iron water pump. They are a little hard to find, but the Federal brackets are more plentiful. The Saginaw pump is a superior pump over the TRW and Federal.

    Adjustable/Collapsible Steering Column?

Yes, your column is collapsed. I just repaired a manual shaft that I bought that was collapsed. I drove it apart with a block of wood back to where the sheer pins lined up. I drilled out the pins and used some JB Weld to fill in the holes. It still has the ability to collapse.

The columns are the same, just the steering wheel shaft is longer on the manual box.

Power to manual box conversion on 1968 Dodge Dart

I changed my car to manual this winter and all I changed was the steering shaft and installed in my power column.

    Manual Steering Box

The only gasket the box has is under the sector shaft top plate, the cap that has 3 bolts on top of the unit. The kit cost $100 plus shipping cost of $15.00. If you do yours I wouldn't take the worm gear apart like I did. Just soak it in some mineral spirits and pack it with new grease...

    Manual Steering Box

I received the bearing and seal kit from Firm Feel the other day. While I was waiting for it I polished the sector and worm gear shaft. I took the worm gear apart and cleaned it all up. The kit did not come with races so I reused the old ones anyway. It all went together easy and I repacked it...

    Manual Steering Box

Looks like mine was a little cleaner inside than yours. I was wondering what type of grease to put back in it. Thanks.

    Manual Steering Box

Good to know about the needle bearings being caged, that;ll make it easier to put back together. My races look good too. Called Firm Feel to order the rebuild kit Tuesday. Matt tried to sell me a 20:1 worm gear and I would really love to have one but the cost is a little steep for me.

    Manual Steering Box

No soft plug. There is a space between the race and the housing to get a small puller of some type behind the race. Of course the FSM shows a Miller tool just for that. I was thinking maybe I could use a slide hammer with some heat to pull it out. But really the race is in good condition, maybe...

    Manual Steering Box

Ok, I started to dissemble the gear box. Only problem I see is how to get the bearing race out of the housing. The worm gear is in very good condition. No flat spots or hitches anywhere.

Thanks! I took it all apart today and cleaned the case. I'll order parts from Firm Feel and give it a try.

    Manual Steering Box

I have a manual box I'm going to install on my car. I was thinking about installing new bearings and seals myself. What kind of specialty tools do you need? I know a service manual is mandatory but beyond that, what else? Anyone have any tips on doing one? I opened it up and it had the...

    Steering Column Paint

Hi Guys. I'm in the process of rebuilding my steering column in my 67. I have a black interior and will paint my column black to match. I was wondering what paint to use to get the original look of the old paint. \ I still haven't found a lower bearing yet, anyone have an idea where I can pick...

Manual Steering - Standard vs Fast Ratio?

I am switching from power to manual this winter. The box I bought has the 24:1 ratio. Can't you get a smaller diameter steering wheel to make it a little more responsive? In the 70's I had a 69 Roadrunner with manual steering,4 speed and manual drum brakes. That thing was a handful to drive...

    Power To Manual Steering

I want to convert my power steering car to manual. I was wondering if the manual steering wheel shaft can installed in my power steering housing. That way I wouldn't have to use a adapter.
