Not finding 10" drum spring for 67 GTS

You're right it's the adjuster spring. Looking closer at the service manual photo right one is short spring on top shoe hole. Jokes on me a in a previous brake job the springs got switched.

Not finding 10" drum spring for 67 GTS

"Drum brakes have a natural "self-applying" characteristic, better known as "self-energizing."[4] The rotation of the drum can drag either one or both of the shoes into the friction surface, causing the brakes to bite harder, which increases the force holding them together." 4 - The AA Book of...

Not finding 10" drum spring for 67 GTS

There must be a reason for the different design in the two springs. Primary shoe spring is shorter. Looks like the primary shoe may be stiffer.

Not finding 10" drum spring for 67 GTS

I see. Here's a photo of the two top return springs on the right and the adjuster spring on the left. Didn't think it would be so hard to find one. NAPA was a dead end.

Not finding 10" drum spring for 67 GTS

I'll double check which spring I grabbed and took a photo of. My return springs are different looking springs. The photo in the 1967 Dodge service manual also shows two different looking return springs. Springs that were in there I changed when the car wasn't very old with springs I got from...

Not finding 10" drum spring for 67 GTS

Thanks for the offer. The one you have in the photo is for the long shoe. The one I have in the above photo is for the short leading shoe. I have new ones for the long shoe like in your photo.

Not finding 10" drum spring for 67 GTS

I tried O'Reily's but no go there.

Not finding 10" drum spring for 67 GTS

I had the short return spring break on the driver's side. Existing springs are original Mopar. I had a hardware kit that I got some years ago but the short return spring in the kit was stiffer and had a shorter offset so it didn't clear the wheel cylinder like the original. I then tried...

On going saga of replacing 67 GTS master

So far so good with the fourth one. Bench bleeding was good noticeably easier than the previous one that was physically larger and much harder to push the piston. Installed and have to bleed system next. Picked up power bleeder for this and future brake projects.

On going saga of replacing 67 GTS master

So years ago when I replaced it I went to the parts store got a master installed it and that was it. Not now. First one the cap leaked. Second one was in a box that said it was a manual brake master but I think it was for power brakes since it was overall much larger and much higher pedal...

Found a Source for 10” rear drums with 1-3/4” shoe

Well I took the drums home to try one and it fits! Guess the different design thru me off. Great. Thanks for the info and checking.

    Kelsey Hayes caliper pistons

SS piston work out great. Went that route about 30 years ago after I got tired of doing brake rebuilds on the car since it sat a lot and they would seize up. Haven't touched them since except for pads and bleeding. One of the best things I ever did to the 67 GTS.

Found a Source for 10” rear drums with 1-3/4” shoe

I talked to the technical group at Centric to verify this number, 123.63044, was correct for the 10" x 1 3/4" drum with 4" bolt circle. The guy said yes and the specs on the web page were incorrect. So I ordered a set from the local parts place after telling him I checked. I just went to pick...

    Rebuild K/H Calipers Versus Remanufactured???

Whatever they plated the caliper with it is starting to show some rust color staining to the plating color in spots. It was worth evey penny when I did it considering how long they have lasted. Too bad Stainless Steel Brake stopped providing the service.

    Rebuild K/H Calipers Versus Remanufactured???

I don't know if you can still get them but years ago I got rebuilt original calipers from stainless steel brake in New York. They stainless steel plated the body, put stainless steel pistons in, stainless steel retainer clips and a stainless steel tube connectiong the two sides. I haven't...

    Do Proportioning Valves Wear Out?

My 67 GTS was not correctly engineered from the factory and it had premature rear wheel lock up. Years ago I got the Mopar Performance adjustable valve. I had to set it to the maximum pressure reduction to the rear brakes. A few years ago when I replaced the scored front rotors I put on...

    Rotor replacement on 1967 Dart

Thanks for the reply. What is "staked"? I think the studs are available. One of the guys in the shop that did the resto missed the lefthand/righthand lugs and thought some were rusted on. So one front wheel got new studs. I have the extra set they bought for the other side and didn't use...

    Rotor replacement on 1967 Dart

I can't remember when or if I have ever replace the front rotors. Probably had them turned at some point. So I was wondering how you actually replace them? I thought I read somewhere that the lugs hold them on to the hub? If so how hard is it to take these off the hubs and will the process...

Is it worth replacing Kelsey Hayes 4 piston

Years ago I got tired of the 4 piston brakes seizing up from sitting in the garage so I replaced them with calipers I got from Stainless Steel Brake in New York. At the time they were $150 each. They had SS pistons, SS plated body and a SS line. My have SS pad retaining spring/clip but I'm...

    In-Line Tube SUCKS!

Years ago I replaced the front lines on my 67 using Inline tube and its worked out great. Lately I was replacing the rear lines and had a problem with the ones on the differential not fitting. I sent them back with mine. The front to rear fit ok but the first one they sent was for a drum...
