    alternate heater hose routing

I didn't run my heater hoses through the air-gap but I did run my PCV line through it. I didn't want a bunch of ugly rubber hose running all over so I bent up an aluminum line and ran it under the intake and out the back of the engine. Then I have a small section of hose running to a vapor...

Tell me about this puke can

Here is mine. This is a stainless tank from Summit. It came with two pipes sticking out the bottom. One connects to the radiator and one is the overflow. The overflow pipe runs up high inside the can. This line is the vent. I assume the one in the original post is this way as well. The...

    Why is my coolant rusty?

I've heard of guys filling their cooling systems with EvapoRust. Running the car up to temp and then letting it sit over night. In the morning, drain it out and flush the block with water to get the rest of the EvapoRust out. My cooling system looks the same as yours on my Challenger. New...

Aluminum radiator for a 68 dart

I converted my 68 to the newer water pump and the passengers side outlet. I went with the Champion cc526. I tried installing a Taurus fan but the core is positioned too close to the engine for it to fit. I had to use a mechanical fan and make my own shroud.

    Cowl Inspection Ports

That looks really good. I assume they are just so you can inspect the inside and clean out any leaves and crap that may accumulate there? I think I've seen where someone ran a couple air cleaner ducts to that area to draw in cooler air.

    Coolant Overflow Tank/Reservoir

IIRC it was pretty cheap. $30 maybe? Looks like the price has increased in the three years since I bought mine. Still not a bad price IMO. Hell, a reproduction plastic windshield washer jug is $50. Summit Racing SUM-300103 Summit Racing® Stainless Steel Overflow Tanks | Summit Racing

    Coolant Overflow Tank/Reservoir

I bought this stainless tank from Summit Racing. It has two mounting brackets built-in. I have it mounted to my fan shroud. It came with two tubes sticking out the bottom. One to hook up to the radiator and one for an overflow to the ground. The top of the overflow tube is about 3/4 of the...

    OVER HEATING WITH A 318 ?

What are you using for an overflow bottle? What is its capacity? Did you fill the radiator completely full of coolant or leave it a little low? On old systems that didn't use an overflow from the factory, the coolant shouldn't be filled all the way to the top of the radiator. On a stock...

How to get blower motor to seal?

Can you post a picture of your entire heater box with the blower motor installed? On my 68, it doesn't look like there is a seal around the motor on the back side. There is just one on the outside retaining plate. The four spacers that go on the studs should stick out past the motor...

    aluminum washer bottle

Has anyone used a universal bottle like this on their A-body? I don't think the stock plastic tank is going to look right in my engine compartment. This one is fairly inexpensive and could be a good starting point. I think it might work with some modifications. Windscreen Washer Bottle...

    Champion radiator

Great, thanks. I'll have to look at it a little closer and double check the hose part #s that I have.

    Champion radiator

I put the cc526 in my 68 Dart. I don't know why they mount the core so far back. They could easily mount it closer to the radiator support. I was going to try and use a Taurus fan but it wasn't even close. I'm using thicker billet pulleys so a clutch fan wouldn't even work. I've seen posts...

upper and lower radiator hoses a body

Where have you checked? Your local parts store should be able to get them for you. Or, you can look them up yourself on Rockauto.com. Lots of times when dealing with these old cars, Rockauto is cheaper then your local store.

What is this stuff in my block?

That crap probably insulates the coolant from the high heat areas. It was probably running hot, the heat just wasn't getting transferred to the coolant.

What is this stuff in my block?

It wouldn't work in this situation but I've heard of guys filling the cooling system with EvapoRust. They run the car up to operating temp, shut it off and let it sit over night. Then drain it out and flush.

    20" clutch fan

Is anyone running a 20" clutch fan on a SB with a 22" radiator? I knew I had a clutch fan in my parts stash but was shocked to see how big it was. It was off of a late 70's C-body with air. I know I'll probably have to get the shorter clutch but I'm not sure if it's too large. I'm probably going...

    repro defroster tubes

Are both hoses the same size? I thought one was bigger down at the heater box. Does anyone know how the factory retaining clips work? I don't understand how they hold the hoses in place. Maybe no one is reusing them?

    High volume water pump?Yes/No

Everything I've read shows this to be an old wives tail. While "true" that the coolant has less time in the radiator to dissipate the heat, it also has less time in the engine to absorb that heat. Pulled from another thread.

Hose covers / clean up underhood ideas?

I like the clean/simple look of plain black heater hoses. As far as the upper and lower hoses are concerned, I've seen a few cars with polished stainless tubes instead of a hose. They had a short length of hose on either end to attach it.

    Heater box refinish/paint

All you need to do is clear it. Scuff it up lightly and spray the clear. The scratches will disappear and the box will look new.

    Heater core

Not impressed with the heater core I bought from Advance Auto. The tubes weren't bent correctly. I had to oval out the holes in the sheet metal plate that is screwed to the box. I also had to trim the mounting flange for it to fit inside the box. It might be a good idea to see if a radiator...

    heater box foams

I'm assembling my NON A/C heater box. I'm not sure where the two longer thin gray foam pieces go. The instructions say the longer one goes on the heater core somewhere. It doesn't say anything about where the shorter gray one goes. You can see the two pieces I'm talking about in this link...

    radiator fitment questions

I haven't had much luck with electric fans. Most of them don't move enough air and/or restrict airflow through the radiator. I've heard good things about a Mercedes fan upgrade though. It's a dual fan setup and pushes a lot of air. Unless you go with one of those, I think you will be happier...

    160-degree thermostat too cold?

What temp does the engine run at now? A 160 degree stat won't necessarily make it run cooler. A 195 stat is what most cars came with from the factory. What do you have your timing set at?
