    1966 engine with 1981 904A

Wallered out the front pump on a car I bought with a 72 motor and the original 66 trans. And, it’s the original trans for the car, and coded for a HP application, so I feel the need to rebuild it.

    1966 engine with 1981 904A

I would be worried if it were the other way around and they used a later motor with an early trans. But your situation sounds like someone already remedied the mismatch!

Starter for Slant Six to 904

All Mopar starters are the same regardless of motor, including the newer style mini starters from Dakota pickups!! I would look into getting one of those, you can get them at the auto parts, or at most pick a part yards!!

Auto to manual , pilot bearing question

You can have a pilot bushing made up by any machine shop! My neighbor can pump one out in about 20 minutes, and just did one last week! My crank was not drilled either, just gave him the inner and outer dimensions of the bushing and boom, done! The outer diameter needs to be about .002 bigger...

    Damsel in distress

How about trying to start it in neutral?? The neutral safety switch may be keeping it from cranking over, or it may be plugged into the wrong terminal on the relay!! It would not effect the lights and such, that sounds like a no ground or fusible link gone bad!! Damn I wish I was closer to come...

    Damsel in distress

You have to make sure that the battery is even good enough to charge! If your charger has an amp guage on it, when you turn it on it should go up to the rated max amperage of the charger if the battery is dead but is still a good battery! Therefore, if the charger is rated at 20amps, the meter...

    Pulling out my s6

I always recommend pulling the pan and draining as opposed to just letting it run out the tailshaft, much cleaner that way!!!

Won't Start need advice, Please read....

So, things that you did not mention....does it have the points style distributor?? If so, replace the condenser, even if it's brand new! A bad condenser can give you fits thinking it is fuel related!

    Running without a thermostat ok?

Did you try testing the thermostat? Maybe it's not functioning properly? A simple thermometer and a pan of water on the stove will tell you when, or if, the thermostat is opening and at what temp!!

Could someone help me with this?

Is it points or electronic ignition? If its points I would replace the condenser, and the ballast resistor, both cheap parts both known to cause erratic running, complete stalling under cruising conditions, and both capable of coming back "online" for a time before acting up again! Just a start...

Using A Different Fan On A Slant Six

I would first start by taking a few measurements. Measure the circumference of the 4 blade fan and check it's orientation in the shroud. (You do have a shroud, yes??) Measure the distance from the current fan to the radiator, and measure the thickness of any fan spacers. I'm not current on...

Perhaps she's not a goner after all..

I'm leaning towards a trans problem myself. I have a car with a 904 that has a trans problem. If I put it in gear it will move, but if I give it gas at all the trans "screeches", ut will accelerate at idle until it shifts to second. If, after it shifts to second, I lightly gas it, it will...

Perhaps she's not a goner after all..

The lad has another thread where he chronicles the events that led up to this problem. He was driving along, the car seemed to be laboring, he heard a screech and them poof, the car would not move. I agree that if the car is jacked up and the driveshaft spins at all then it is probably in the...
