    Talk me into Fenderwell Headers

Seen a couple of big block a bodies with hooker fenderwells headers where they had to run skinny small diameter tire up front to keep them from rubbing on the headers

    What do you think?

I also say leave the headers off, you are only probably losing 20-25 hp which translates to .20 to .25 seconds which is not a huge amount and barely felt in the seat of the pants the hassle with headers in your situation for a street car is not worth it Milduster I totally agree on the torker...

    73 Motor Home Motor

It is probably a 440-3 block which has heads and a block with extra cooling holes, you can put std heads on it with the proper gaskets if they are the angle plug heads they are crap it could have a forged crank but it most likely has a cast crank

    Motorhome 440's... factory seconds?

My first car, a 72 Gold Duster. had a maltese cross next to the serial numbers on the block. It's a good thing I looked it up because it meant that the rods were turned 10 under.

    440 / 727 from motor home

That would be a 440-3 block,Depending on the year it could have some of those crappy angle plug heads or decent heads, forged or cast crank. the block has extra cooling holes but std heads will work with the right gasket,

    400 Big block

As stated, Schumacher mounts will work well. I did a slant 6 k frame 70 Duster with a 440 ten years back and the only mod was having to grind the k frame slightly to fit the 440 high vol oil pump. Exhaust clearances are very tight with a 440 not to mention high costs for headers. B body...

    v8 schumacher kits

The exhaust set up for a big block duster is somewhat limited. If you go with a B instead of RB, (383,400 vs 413-440) you will have more exhaust clearance to work with which on these cars is critical as there is limited exhaust room as it is. All exhaust choices except the stock manifolds...

    75 valiant 225 to 440 swap help!!!

Your exhaust choices are fenderwell, which I have seen fit fine but will probably require you to run skinny tires up front as I have seen more than one conversion to fenderwells where the tires rubbed on the headers, B or C body manifolds which will require angle milling on one side for a good...

    Headers

x3 if you want every little bit of performance you can get , but if you don't want to cut the fenderwells and want something that fits nicely without major hassle go with the Schumacher headers. They won't produce as much hp as fenderwells or other equal length headers but they are basically a...

    Cost to get 500hp?

About 450 bucks for a 200 hp nitrous setup,LOL IN all seriousness the last 440 I built with forged pistons, all new valvetrain, ported heads, intake and carb, dizzy, etc. including the machine work was 5 grand before I knew it. The machine work on the heads block and crank was 1700 alone. Im...

408 stroker vs. 500 stroker Challenge fun!!

Hughes 500 stroker kit for 2k, machine work and remaining parts 2k, tranny 1k.I don't see why you cant get 500 hp using 906 mildly worked heads. 500 plus flywheel hp should get you into the 11's easy in a 3000 lb car.

what does it take to swap a big block in a duster ?

With the limited space afforded by a 440 I would opt for the B 383-400 set up especially I you are going to install a turbo. Depending on the car the clearance between the shock tower can be at an absolute minimum. One car will accomodate a 440, the next one requires chiseling and frigging to...

77 RV 440 head cracked, is what i heard true?

I ran into the same situation and called edelbrock as I was considering some of their heads on a 440-3 block which is what you probably have. I was told to run the standard head gasket for a std 440 and it would block the extra cooling passages in the 440-3 block which you will not need in a...

Questions on building 440 to go in a 70 Dart

Be prepared to beef and modify your rear suspension if you have any hope at all of getting traction. I had a 440 in a 70 Duster and it was great fun and I could boil the tires on demand.. The standard leaf spring and pinion snubber beef up for the rear probably won't be enough to get decent...
