    ID these shock plates

That is a match, they are truck shock plates. The U bolts that were with them must be for a different application. Thanks to All for the help.

    ID these shock plates

These shock plates are larger than the shock plates that I have on the 8.75 on the 68 Barracuda. The spacing on the U bolts is the same. I am going to be putting these up for sale and I don’t want to steer someone wrong on the application. 1) Are these truck or C body or maybe B body 8.75 shock...

    8.75 Set up

Gear mesh pattern and backlash are the two key bench indicators for determining if a differential is set up properly. There is also a torque to turn target but that is for setting the pinion bearing preload.

    Rear differential

You should install the axel seals even when using the green bearings. I would not trust that tiny o ring on the od of the green bearing to make a perfect seal.

    8 3/4" sure-grip swap and rebuild questions

I used a couple of scrap pieces of angle iron to attach the third member to my engine rollover. Simple and cheap and works great. I will see if I can find a photo.

    Leak at pinion splines

I did mention the nut torque to Cass. He was adamant that Mopar was wrong on the torque for the 10 spline 742 cases. Cass says the correct pinion nut torque on a 742 case is 175 ft lbs.

    Leak at pinion splines

Hello I recently installed a Dr Diff 3:55 gear set into the 742 carrier in the 68 Barracuda. Noticed a re occurring teaspoon size puddle of oil on the garage floor. Last evening I put the rear end up on jack stands to investigate. From the circular oil spray on the under body the leak is...

part number for 742 pinion seal that is not leather

anyone have a part number for a 742 pinion seal that is rubber and not leather? I would also like it to have the OD lip flange The National 7216 is said to fit the 742 pinion and has the OD lip, but it also has a leather seal and is also $35.00 and change across the counter at the local auto...

    New true-trac differential whine

I do my own differential work and always file away photos of the final gear imprint. If I was having a shop do a ring and pinion set up for me I would have them take photos of the final gear imprint and provide them to me. I am surprised they did not do that anyway, about everyone has a cell...

    8 3/4 dissasembly help needed.

    1) Why loctite the left hand ring gear bolts, Do you run in reverse a lot? 2) And yes there are some special tools required, but if the existing ring and pinion are going back in, the existing shims will be fine, assuming it was set up correctly, so the pinion depth tool would not be needed. And...

Ring and Pinion pattern set up video

in the midst of the R&P set up and looked at several videos that attempted to explain what to look for concerning the patterns. The link below is to the best video that I found; I thought it is a * short and easy explanation of how the pattern on the drive side and coast side interact * liked...

Mark both of the bearing caps prior to disassembly, so you know how to put them back in the correct spot when re assembling the diff.

8.75 Pinion bearing fit to pinion shaft question

Hello, changing out a ring and pinion set in a 742 8.75. I believe the ring and pinion being removed is an OE set. Has Mopar part number and a manufacturing date of 1968 stamped in it. I recently went through this differential and put all new bearings in it. I plan to reuse the bearing with the...

Green Bearing Oring part number listed

I too use McMaster Carr, but for these Orings, McMaster Carr was over $12.00 for a package of ten, plus shipping. Granger was around $3.00 for ten and they have local stores so I could pick up and not pay shipping.

I have Dr Diff axels with green bearing on the 68 Barracuda. 741, cone sure sure grip, 3.23, 1970. What is it worth?

The value really depends upon how much you actually know about the unit and are willing to put your reputation on as a seller. If you have actually used the differential and can vouch that the cone sure grip works, the gears and bearings are quite and it is 100% reliable and functional then it...

Why is everyone using cable kickdowns?

I used a Locar cable kit, was a piece of cake making it work with the GM Vortec TB used with the MPFI on the Slant Six.

    alternative kickdown linkage?

Don, for the 68 Barracuda I looked at the cheaper eBay kick down cables but decided to go with the actual Lokar cable kit. It was easy to adapt to the GM Vortec TB that I am running and came with the correct adapters for the 904 transmission. Easy to adjust and functions fine.

    Rebuilt 8.75 Sure-Grip - resistance and clunk

Per conversations with Dr Diff the gear oils that come with the friction modifier already mixed in, don’t have enough of the additive. Contact the shop that installed the unit to find out what lube they put in, if they did not add an additional bottle of friction modifier, do that and then see...

WHO can shorten a C-Body axle housing?

Agree, a machine shop that does blocks - heads and build engines would not be the place to shorten a differential housing. You want a race car fabrication shop, a place that does welding. Go to a local circle or drag track and talk with some crews/drivers and get recommendations. Shortening an...

    Cone Suregrip rebuild question

Dr Diff has a shim kit on his web page for cone sure grips that have been trimmed. And, is it possible that a previous owner trimmed the cones, and that is why you see the clearance, but not shim it properly and that is why it is not working correctly.

    Inner axel seal leak?

Put the 68B up on jackstands to get ready to do some under body work and to pull the differential to make a gear change and found oil on the inside rim of the L rear. Also then found a drop of gear oil on the outer axel flange. The axels were coming out anyway to be able to remove the diff, so...
