    Small bolt pattern 8.25

usually all 8 1/4 darts were 4.5(1973 up), but 1972 was the last year for the 8 3/4, so apparently never say never on a mopar.

Putting a late model 8 1/4 Jeep rear end in a 66 Dart

I decided to simply narrow a 67 B body 8 3/4 housing, and bought new axles from strange. I could have also narrowed a C body housing as well. there are more of them around.

    a really dumb question

The real History lesson is: When WW2 began the Military was given strict standards of vehicle assembly. All Military vehicles in 1941 forward were to have leftie, leftie, rightie rightie. There were specific reasons for it. When the War ended in 1945, GM and Ford discontinued the practice...

    What transmission do I have?

Now, you could have a TUG. Better known as a GSE towing vehicle. I used one all the time towing aircraft. (1971)it had a slant six with the 727. It was a rocket ship up to about 18 MPH.(Governor) But it sure could pull a lot of Heavies.Lol

Difference between SB 727 and BB 727

I actually found a taxicab small block five years ago.. when I had my mopar trans guy look at it, he was thrilled. he hadn't seen one in a number of years. I put it behind my 340.

Difference between SB 727 and BB 727

I love looking at transmission part numbers. Everybody thinks a hemi Automatic is the most rare. Nope. A 727 Taxicab slant six transmission. next is a taxicab small block 727. beefier than a 340 app.according to the parts books.Lol

Difference between SB 727 and BB 727

Different bolt pattern, mainly. The differences Internally are dictated by which engine the trans sit behind.

Buying a 727, what to look for?

The torque convertor is everything. When you get one, grill them about all the Improvements they made to it. if they say they rebuilt it to stock specs, keep moving. I would highly recommend the Company I used in Fort Dodge, Iowa. They are a large outfit, and sell nationwide. Plus the convertors...

Buying a 727, what to look for?

My Transmission guy says there were many Improvements actually to the mid 70's Transmissions from the 60's. When I bought new torque convertors the Company I used actually updated the Torque Convertors for my 69' 340 using many new parts from the 90's. So it comes down to the quality of the...

Buying a 727, what to look for?

I'll pm my number. I work every sunday, so I take calls all day. Car calls are more fun than realtor calls. I have a 68' 383 dart, so I understand.

Buying a 727, what to look for?

if you are unfamiliar, the easy way is to measure the distance between the top two bolts holding the trans to the block. small and big block are not the same distance. however, The part number is the safe way. When you get there call somebody that has a parts book. I have a small book with me at...

Buying a 727, what to look for?

Look at part number and post it, not all are created equal. The 440 transmission is a stronger unit than say a 383 2 bbl transmission.

I was steering him to look at the driver side. That unit looks identical to the 741, and is the unit in my 56' savoy. The difference between the two is the axles shafts. I can't Install a newer 741 in my 56'. I saw the numbers, but I blame totally my not seeing them on my shitty glasses.(I'm...

    What 727 is this?

Can you see two letters, like PK on the driver side rail, towards the middle? The Seven digits after that will be the number. the above numbers don't match anything. 2801543 is the 67' A body, 2892031 is the 68 A body ,2892091 is the 69' A body. 2892093 is the 440 A body transmission. 2892007...

8.75" Diff Housing: Paper Gasket only, or add RTV?

I use a paper gasket, sprayed with adhesive that I use for the headliner. The gasket is tacky, and seals right up. Never a leak. I have to admit a FORD guy taught me that trick.

Is an automatic transmission dust cover needed?

I had something live get stuck in the open area once, I would put on the cover. The little plate was there to drain the torque converter during service. Not as crucial, but I would hunt around for one anyway.
