Lesser of two evils - screamers

In answering I'm assuming the Accelerator is for a 340 / 360. In either case you are going to have a miss match at the intake runner and head which will mess up the flow significantly. 340/360 heads and matching intakes have much larger runners than 318 heads/intakes. When the airflow in the...

OK, good things do come to those who wait(procrastinate)

Patience coupled with a sharp eye (and a bit of luck) can yield some outstanding results, well done sir. I'm a little envious.

    Lash cap help needed

Just read the info from B3 Racing that Yellow rose recommended. Very informative. I can see that level of detailed set up and the requisite expense to squeeze efficiency out of a racing engine but it just isn't practical for a hobby car, at least for me. Manufactures have to make a lot of...

    Lash cap help needed

That is just some assy lube that got smeared on there as I've had the shafts off and on about 20 times in the last coupe of days. I saw it when I took the pics but didn't wipe it off. Sharp eyes! Thanks for everyone's input.

    Lash cap help needed

Took some searching but found an answer: 7 degree locks. So no lash caps. Best out of the 15 pics I took trying to show the wear pattern and location. The left valve tip is what all 8 look like. Problem? Or am I worrying over nothing?

    Lash cap help needed

I've read everything I can find on this subject until my eyes feel like they're bleeding. Opinions range from "don't worry about it the roller tip negates side loading on the valve" to "guide wear will be greatly accelerated" to "it will send shrapnel into low earth orbit!". The motor is not a...

    Lash cap help needed

Hey guys. Prior to ordering new push rods I have to correct a geometry issue with my roller rockers riding on the outer half (exhaust side) of the valve tips. The fix is to install lash caps. Having zero experience with these I'm in need of some advice. The combo: Edelbrock RPM heads...

Thoughts on these Adj Rocker Arms

x3. I have two sets of those rockers. One stock the other modified to clear larger springs which was a typical mod made to these over the years. Like said before get new lock nuts and adjuster screws and run them.

Lead on a 408. Should I do it?

While its fun to dream of all that power just don't consider the motor. What are and in what shape is the rest of the components of the drive train in? Big torque output (what a stroker does), unrestrained throttle foot and unexpected traction will start popping 40+ year old parts like a pan...

318 police pursuit dual quad tunnel ram

j par, glad you found my post helpful. The Police package motors don't get much, if any, love from Moparists. I think that is a result of a perception that 318s are low compression utility motors in general, exacerbated by larger 360 heads/4 bbl intake/carb, and the thought that police motors...

318 police pursuit dual quad tunnel ram

Actually the Police package engines are kind of special. Just about everything internal to them has been upgraded for longevity and HD use. I have a '88 Police 318 in my '65 Formula S and love it. There were also 360 Police engines but not many. If anyone is interested these are the specs...

LD4B OR LD340 FOR 273?? Coil mount?? Need pics

Couple of issues using the LD340, 1st the intake to head bolt holes on, IIRC, pre '67 273 V8s are drilled at a different angle than latter small blocks and 2nd the runner sizes on the LD are much larger than the intake ports in the 273 heads (LD = 340/360 large runner, 273/318 = small runner)...

    Bolts for Eddie heads?

ARP makes a bolt set specifically for the RPM heads. I have them on my 360. I would not reuse the stock bolts. Something in the dark recesses of my memory is prompting me that there is an issue with them in this application.

    Carb suggestion for 360

Depends on the usage of your car. Engine seems like a good street build. What is the compression, converter stall and upper RPM going to be? A smaller carb will give you better air velocity and throttle response and possibly slightly better fuel economy. Any thing from the 600cfm mentioned up...

Anyone running a Milodon 30941 or 30936 pan in an A body?

What year is the K? On my '74, with poly engine bushings in stock mounts, I took a small notch out of the passengers side because it looked like it was going to hit but after putting it all together it would have cleared. If memory serves me correctly the earlier biscuit style Ks need notching.

Pushrods & preload - school me

TXSTANG84 - That was why I asked if the performance gained from purchasing a dial indicator and setting everything off max valve lift was worth the effort and cost opposed to the standard 2 threads + preferred preload method. Probably only a professional mopar engine specialist would know for...

Pushrods & preload - school me

Good point on the thread locker 71swing, thanks. Reason for the Loctite question was one of my friends had a real problem with his 383 valve train years back. His lock nuts and adjusters kept coming loose and backing out. Bent multiple pushrods and we really struggled to resolve it. I think...

Pushrods & preload - school me

Pushrods & preload - school me

Thanks SGB, that's the type stuff I'm looking for. I've kind of settled on 1-2 threads showing with 3/4 turn preload in my head unless someone makes a compelling argument for something else. Do you think it's worth the cost of a dial indicator set, custom pushrods and the time/effort to...

Pushrods & preload - school me

LOL I thought you might come back on that. Probably should have made up something. My point was most guys stop right there.... set it at .020 with 2 threads showing. The next guy says BULL, set it at .040 with 4 threads showing. Unless a pissin contest starts the explaination of why you like...

My intent is to try the understand the why behind the differences in opinions so that I can make an informed decision on how I will set up the "set up" for my intended useage of the car. Pushrods & preload - school me

Ok got some, not all, answers from Hughes Engines web site, thanks again MH. Short answer to adjuster threads showing is geometry. Why am I drawn to the aluminum??

Got the best of both worlds. One of my best friends built a nice bracket 360. Bought the Eddies, had them professionally ported and the bottom end let go (over rev'd it through the lights) after a few races taking out the whole motor. I picked up the heads from him for $400 and shipped them...

    273 rockers? on 340

Ok here's the promised pictures of the 273 mechanical rocker setup. I just set these on a rebuilt 915 "J" head with 340 springs for illustration purposes. Pic 1, 2 & 3: Retaining bolt "washers" correctly oriented ie. small, large, small, large, small. Notice rocker arms are centered over...
