Found my dads original 1971 duster!

It can provide plenty of both. Welcome here. That Hydro guy sounds like an obnoxious, thoughtless dillweed; good job getting the car away from him.

Hi I’m from South Australia I have an 1961 s series that needs tlc

    The S-model Australian Valiant (=US '62 model) used the US-type gear reduction starter with 10-tooth, ø33mm drive pinion. The R-model (=US '61 model) used the US-type Prestolite (Auto-Lite) direct-drive starter with 9-tooth, ø25mm drive pinion. Australian AP5 ('63) through VF ('69) Slant-6s used...

1963 v-100 plodges Canadin valiant project.

Well…no, not really. "Plodge" is not an official term or name, it's an attempt at being witty by some American wag writing or talking many years ago about non-US-market Chrysler Corp vehicles* which had a mix of US Plymouth and Dodge body components, that's all. Technically, your car isn't a...

67' vs 68' Service Manual - Electrical for Dart

There are differences (side marker lights on '68s but not on '67s, various changes throughout). The '68 Valiant diagrams will be a very close match for your '68 Dart.

just joining and new to A-Body

Looks like a nice car. Some reliable parts suppliers are listed here. Gary Goers was an excellent source for all those bits and bobs like the wire harness straps. His health failed and he quit the biz, but his entire inventory and tooling got picked up by another outfit and it's all still on...

Old man with old car, new here with questions

OK, so yeah, you still have the road draft tube. Worth going to PCV instead (oil/engine stay much cleaner, no crankcase stench inside car). I've fixed the broken "see here" link in my previous post in this thread; it now goes where it's supposed to.

Old man with old car, new here with questions

Whoah-whoah-whoah. That's wrong. The heater vacuum hose is meant to connect to a fitting on the № 6 (rearmost) intake manifold runner. That carb fitting is for your PCV. Can't tell from these pics, but perhaps your '62 was neither a California nor a New York car, and has the old road draft tube...

Old man with old car, new here with questions

Nice work, onward and upward. Still some choke work to do, looks like. Where does your hose run that you've got connected to the large nipple just ahead of the driver-side carb hold down nut?

Sounds like good progress. That bushing is a special piece for this application. There is only one type. It's available as Gary Goers № 415 from QQDC.

Old man with old car, new here with questions

Yes, a Holley 1920 or Carter BBS carb intended for a 225 will work just fine on the 170 (…is part of the reason why I pointed you at the particular, specific carb I pointed you at). The factory started using the larger ("225-sized") carb on the 170 in 1967, which raised the 170's published...

Old man with old car, new here with questions

Check your Private Messages on here. Wow, power brakes are even rarer than power steering. You'll want to be aware of Booster Dewey for if/when your power brake booster or other components need repair. Careful, there—see here. Diagnosis: does the engine temperature gauge work, or is that...

Old man with old car, new here with questions

Nice car. Someone before you hacked that carburetor out of ignorance and/or desperation. It's not a '60 carburetor, it's a thrown-together "remanufactured" item with parts from various '64-'67 carbs, and it's missing its choke pull-off. One of your pics shows a '73-up choke thermostat (down on...

    Convert to power steer

You can swap the shorter steering shaft from any '63-'66 A-body with power steering into your existing steering column.

    Convert to power steer

You'll need the steering column (or swap the shorter power-steering steering shaft into your existing column), the steering gearbox, power steering pump and brackets, and either the belt sheave that bolts onto the front of your original crankshaft pulley, or the truck-duty 3-sheave crank pulley...

    Speedo sticking 69 Dart

The cable might well need lubing, but if it were dry/unlubed the symptoms would be different. Stuck-at-a-certain-speed is not a dry-cable problem.

    Speedo sticking 69 Dart

Make sure the needle's not just jamming against the speedo face, which can happen if the cluster faceplate has been off for repair work in the area. Sometimes all that's needed is to carefully bend the needle tip up off the speedo face. But if that's not it, you're probably looking at a worn-out...

    1962 Valiant - Omaha, NE

Look for a triangular aluminum tag secured to one of the two frontmost bowl screws (at the top of the carb), if yours is a Carter BBS that's where the carb number is -- kind of a dumb place for them to have put it, because the tag can be left off whenever that screw's removed, or can simply...

"Rebuilt carb" is a possible red flag/bad news if it is a "remanufactured" carb -- those tend to be junk.

Thanks! Well, as I say...that one's available for purchase. :-\ I have been very lucky to have this car, yes. But it's time for me to move on. I hesitate to sidetrack this thread with matters not related to our new member's '62 Valiant, but you asked: I am a second-class US citizen...

Hey, that's a sweet '62 in Swimming Pool Green (formally "Pale Jade"). Tune-up parts and technique suggestions in this thread -- following them, including the valve adjustment, and giving some attention to the carburetor (and maybe doing the Fuel line mod and HEI upgrade ) ought to cure the...

    New Dart Owner

You can keep the pushbutton controls, but you'll need a new transmission; V8 engines don't mate up to \6 transmissions. Also you'll need to upgrade the brakes substantially, and the front and rear suspension, and the radiator, and sooner than later the rear axle, too. Just because a V8 will fit...

    hi from french mopar owner

Sure did -- that was 1936 through 1993 in France; all forward-facing lights on cars were required to emit a particular color called 'selective yellow' light. Details, for those who care, are here.

New Member with a 63 Valiant

There are electrical differences and some other mechanical quirks to the pre-'67 Canadian cars. Fuel and temp gauge both not working usually means the instrument cluster voltage regulator is faulty. It's built into the gauge on this car, though a separate (and upgraded electronic) external unit...

Bienvenue ici. Je remarque que vos phares ne se conforment pas aux normes Européennes; d'habitude (mais pas toujours), les phares à code Americain sont maudits par le Contrôle Technique.
