Dakota front gears into a 7 1/4 rear?

I have yet to see a 87-90 dakota equipped with 2.76's or 3.23sregardless of the axle/engine combo lol, the 87 REAR i have is equippped with 3.55's, as is my 1987 4x4 truck, tow package Dakotas were typically equipped with 3.90s or 3.55s depending on what was ordered etc. and 3.90s were an option...

Dakota front gears into a 7 1/4 rear?

That's about what i'd say supershafts, I'm working on tearing down the Dakota that is our answer right now, and it's been a nice troublesome job to yank the carrier from it thus far, I'm having a hard time telling if the carrier uses C-clips to retain the axles or not. I have another Dakota with...

Dakota front gears into a 7 1/4 rear?

as I've stated before, the 1987-1990 (may have gone on later, but I don't know) 4x4 Dakotas used 7-1/4 diffs in the front and the 2.5L Dakotas had 7-1/4 rears. I just can't confirm that the carrier is splined to take solid axles

    7.25 sure grip

Okay, went out to check this out, the diff in this particular truck is open, BUT this truck also had an open 8-1/4 rear, so maybe there's an off chance that a Dakota that had the Limited Slip/SureGrip option would have both differentials with sure grip units, but I'd have to hunt down such an...

    7.25 sure grip

I'll confirm this later after I finish dismantling the truck, but early (87-90 or so) Dakota 4x4s use a 7-1/4 front diff and I believe it is a sure grip unit, after I get to pulling one out of the truck I'm tearing apart I'll see if it's a sure grip unit and check if it's spline'd to accept...

    6 cyl trans on v8?

more than likely (owner of multiple v6 dakotas) it's an A500, which is a sweet trans and i have one behind my 360 and it holds up fine and it turns 2k at 65mph with 3.90 gears! but if i remember right you have to modify the trans tunnel to stuff one in an a body

What did the A518 come in?

no, the 999 is just a 904 with a lockup torque converter, which will drop RPMs slightly but maybe only half or so the drop that an overdrive would give you. I have one in my 1987 Dakota that's getting swapped out for an A500

What did the A518 come in?

The 5th Avenue trans is more than likely a lockup 904, aka the A999 The 518 was used in Dakotas and Rams in the 1990s, make sure you get an RH and not an RE, I believe the way to identify a 518/500 from a 727/904 is the overdrive unit makes the transmission longer, somebody else can correct me...

    904 vs. 42RH - Pictures

not sure why they gave the A500 a 2 torque rating, mine gets about 450 ft/lbs jolted through it and lives to tell about it lol

Dodge A500 transmission hooked to a 408 sb?

an A500 hooks right to a small block, I'm running one on my 400HP daily driver Dakota, for the couple of banzi-blasts I've put it through since i got it running the trans has been perfectly fine, I think the overal demensions are close to a 904 too, but not too sure, never did a side by side...
