    Possible cheap headers

That is not a job that is to be taken on lightly. If you have the tools , skills and a high tolerance for frustration , I'd say yes. Know that at least one tube a side is going into the wheel well in most cases. The reason most of the shelf headers for these bodies are 1 5/8 " tubes and 3 "...

When are you too large for an early A body....

My 65 dart stock steering wheel has like a 4 1/2 " dish in it.........went to a smaller diameter wheel with less dish and gained a bunch of room. My seat is fixed and as far back as the roll cage will let it be , so long story short , I screwed up with the build. I should have un-assed the back...

    Adjust valves

I do the procedure detailed above......set the exhaust as the intake starts to open and the exhaust as the intake sets on the seat. Doing it cold , you want to compensate for expansion when the engine is at operating temp. O.K. , true confession time. I had to edit because my memory failed...

    Adjust valves

How in the name of Buddha did you get the lash set correctly ? With a hydraulic cam I have done this and given them the 1/2 turn past quiet , but that was with stud mounted rockers. Shaft mounted has to be an adventure.

    Thoughts?...sold for $7,900

If it had a four speed , it would make my willy tingle. It is a departure from current custom car philosophy , but I like the approach and execution. It has a nice old school vibe to it and the souped up six is the cat's fanny. And I have an R-3 / W-9 combo under my hood , so I figure if I can...

    Possible cheap headers

I found this out , but with W-9 heads and an AlterKtion. Made them , and it was a 40 + hour , 850.00 chuckle fest............that includes coating. Don't go cheap. You truly get what you pay for in this world. If you can live with 1 5/8 tubes , Hooker , Dougs and I think Hedman have products...

WHAT SIZE DRAG RADIAL SS SPRING '65 DART

Thanks. I am going through the rear suspension now.......Cal Tracs and some other stuff. It got involved , because I had to relocate the upper shock mounts. The shocks wouldn't clear the brace on the rear end , so in my usual style , I got carried away. As long as I was in the trunk , I went for...

WHAT SIZE DRAG RADIAL SS SPRING '65 DART

prorac1 , that is a great looking car. What size hides are those ? Oooops , I see the size up there. lol I am looking at trying to fit 315's in mine and if I have to , I think rolling the lip will give me plenty of room. But hopefully with less back space I will be good.

WHAT SIZE DRAG RADIAL SS SPRING '65 DART

If you did a proper mini tub job , you are wasting 3 " of room by not moving the springs inboard. If you do move the springs , a 295-55 X 15 ET Street fits with room to spare. 6 1/2 " back space with a 1/4 " spacer because I couldn't find a 6 " back space rim. A 5 1/2 " backspace wheel might be...

Any 65 Dart owners in here..Show pics of your car !

Mine had a 340 and a 727 in it when I got it. It had to take some convincing to fit.....the seam between the floor and firewall needs to be mashed flat or trimmed. Now , it is a 405 inch R-3 / W-9 with a 904. Tried super stock leafs and it wouldn't hook at all. Now going for Cal Tracs , and I...

    1965 Dart owners thread!

2Dartman........I have a mint steel or a shitty fiberglass. The steel hood is the one on the car here...........Soon to be replaced by a really nice glass piece. Great looking cars out there. The '65 set it's hook in me back in high school , so when it was time to come over to the dark side ...

    Reasonable price?

These should be 1 5/8" primaries I think. I gave away a coated set for 150.00 used and would think you should be able to get close to that for them if the slip joints aren't all gakked up and the repair was well done. Look at what they sell for and figure 1/3rd to 1/2 depending on condition...

    A/C pics for a early A

I pulled out all of that stuff from my '65 GT.........if you want it , you're welcome to it. I know.........I'm a dick for cutting up a clean GT / ac car. But on the scale of mistakes I've made in my life , this doesn't make top 100. You'll have to pay for shipping , but it is all sitting in my...

    Another Newb Question!

Exhaust leak ? I haven't seen anything posted yet that it couldn't be. Define " clicking ". Pretty tough to diagnose without more info. It could easily be one problem creating another i.e. bad motor or trans mount causing something to shift and create this " clicking " you hear.

Going from 4speed to 727 in 65 dart question

What motor ? I ask because my '65 had a 727 in it and the installer ( previous owner ) used a small brain and a large hammer. I had to weld patches in the floor where the seam used to be. You will need to clearance the tunnel at the seam and there are a couple ways to go about it. I might...

I did it!! 325's on the rear of the 65 dart(barely)

I did my own sub frame connectors.......2X3" rectangular , and it comes up through the floor behind the drivers seat. They butt up to the torsion bar cross member in front and enter the front of the rear subframe at the back. Tying them into the floor really adds additional stiffness. There are...

Mini tubb on 65 dart gt convertible progress

Kind of - sort of. But you are replacing a solid piece that was also formed which adds stiffness to it. I did a full weld on mine. I also welded the front sub frame in spots to make it more rigid because I will be taxing the structure a lot more than the factory engineers ever foresaw. I...

Mini tubb on 65 dart gt convertible progress

I was surprised at how much more bracing there is in there on a convertible...........makes me glad I did a hard top. Nice work. As for tires , I just posted in another thread , but I got 295/55-15 M/T drag radials under mine and I don't see a whole lot more fitting with out a full back half job...

I did it!! 325's on the rear of the 65 dart(barely)

I have 295/55-15 M/T drag radials under mine and they are a nice fit. I could maybe squeeze a little more in there , but I reckon they'll do. How ? Mini tubbed , housing moved back 1 " , axles shortened 2 " per side and 15 X 10 rims with 6 1/2 " backspace. I have to use a 3/8" spacer between...

    Gears or torque convertor

Frank Lupo has good rep. google Dynamic torque converters for contact info I use Lenny at Ultimate converter concepts and he is among the best in the business in my opinion. Also google for info. Early dart mini tub

Mine. Best advice I got on this was to not try and take one long strip to fill the gap. I used eight to ten inch strips and a butt weld where they met and this made it a whole bunch easier. It even turned out pretty O.K.

    65 Dart parts availability

My experience has been that 65 stuff is a little tough to come by , but it is out there. There is some fiberglass stuff out there too , and some vendors to be avoided. I got my candy canes from Laysons , and while they were pricey , they are perfect. I ordered a glass hood from Showcars in...

    Subframe connectors

I'm a little surprised by this. Mine went in a '65 Dart with no problem. They come through the floor behind the driver's seat and enter the front of the rear sub. I used 2 X 3 X .125 wall and tied the floor to it as well. Where in Wisconsin are you ? If you're close to civilization ( Mpls...

New rear springs for a 65 Dart, 2,800LB or 3,200LB?????

Do you want hook or look ? If you are worried about ride quality , don't bother with SS springs. You won't be happy. Just tell your friends that it has them.......they won't know the difference anyways. They are designed to facilitate maximum traction in a drag race application. And the...

    clearence question

I had a MoPar M-1 with a 750 and the M.P. cast lid air cleaner with a 3" element and a flat base on my '65 dart.......it just cleared. This was a 273 car , but had a 340 in it. But the M-1 is a tall bugger , so I think you should be alright.
