Changing crankshaft bearings with the engine in the car.

Who has done this? I've replaced rod bearings with engines still in cars but I don't think that I've replaced a full set of main bearings before. Rods are easy, pushing the rod UP a slight amount allows adequate clearance to slip the top shell out. The mains though...it isn't as if you can pull...

Who has the rundown on the evolution of the LA series engine?

I’m curious about the mid to late 80s, specifically. As I recall, there was a time where the engine blocks had the taller lifter bores but still has flat tappet camshafts. Those blocks could use flat tappers or roller lifters. At some point, the engines went to roller camshafts and didn’t go...

Mechanical fuel pump on a roller cammed 360?

I have no experience with the 318s and 360s once they were fitted with roller cams and lifters. I have even less experience with the Magnum series engines. A friend may be willing to part with an '89 360 that had a roller cam but he swapped in a hydraulic flat tappet setup in it. I'd like to use...

Changing a pulley on an alternator.

I am helping a buddy do an A/C conversion in his car, it currently has a single groove pulley on a good alternator. I have some dual groove pulleys here. What is the process to change pulleys?

Who has painted their engine with a spray gun?

Since I have my engine out for a rebuild, I'm thinking of painting it with a catalyzed paint from a spray gun. Despite good prep, my engines seem to peel a little in some areas so I thought that better quality paint might stick longer. The spray can stuff is cheap and anyone can paint with it...

Did the early 273 use a unique intake manifold?

I thought I recall reading that the heads and intake had a different angle than later LA series engines. Who can shed some light on this?

302 head exhaust port bulge and a '65 Valiant LH manifold

I sold a '65 Valiant Convertible to a friend of a friend. The new owner is a decent guy but isn't a hardcore car guy like many of us here. He needs a LOT of help to make this car roadworthy. It sucks for me though....I sold the car because I don't want it at my house anymore. I thought by...

Any truth to the practice of BLACK painted parts dissipating heat better?

I recall reading about this before. Radiators painted black, NASCAR engines, other instances as well. What do you people think?

Valve spring differences between roller cam and flat tappet cam.

I have a 1987 318. The heads I had rebuilt are from an earlier 318. I'm curious if I need to use the stock valvesprings from the roller cam engines. My machinist thought that the factory roller cams are really tame and that the flat tappet spec springs would be fine. What do you all think ?

Pictures needed for 273 motor mounts in a 65 Dart/Valiant

Hello everyone, I have a 65 Valiant here that I got in multiple pieces. I am getting ready to set a rebuilt 318 in tomorrow and am trying to figure out which motor mounts I need to use. I have a pile of mounts in the garage but I don't know which ones are correct or which ones are not correct...

    67 Dart, 360 with a noisy tick....

My 67 is a beater. It has always been a rough looking cars the entire time that I have owned it. I'm okay with that. I have fun with it I have a '78 360 in it. Standard bore but with '308 heads. It has a cam with specs I don't recall, it is something a bit bigger than a stock 340 cam. Awhile...

Can a 273 crank be balanced to 340 specs ?

I was told that since these cranks share the same rod and main journal size and stroke, a 273 forged crank can be balanced to fit a 340. I have never tried this. I have a friend that had a 340 built at a shop and the engine developed a spun rod bearing at less than 100 miles. I helped with the...

    340 connecting rod oil squirters

Aren't the oil squirters on the connecting rods and caps supposed to face INward or toward the outside? I thought they were inward to throw oil against the camshaft. The reason that I ask: A buddy with a 340 Dart is having a strange knock/rattle in the bottom end and I wonder if his engine...

    73 340 external balance factor

Hey guys, I have a 73 Dart Sport 340 that has no engine. I may be able to get a complete 73 340 engine to use. It is missing the torque converter. I'm hoping that someone here knows the amount of weight balance I need and where to place it. Thanks, Greg

Do you find that CHROME parts do not seal as well?

I have had chrome valve covers before as well as chrome oil and transmission pans. I have always had a hard time getting them to seal. Is this just how they all are?

Pushrod length tool came with NO instructions!

What is with these parts houses that sell stuff with NO INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDED ??? I'm installing some aftermarket roller rocker arms and need to get a correct length pushrod. The PR length tool I got from Mancini has no numbers on it. It has some dashed lines. It has a threaded in end that gets...

    Whatever happened to Z-ALT oil?

Mopar Collectors Guide was REALLY pushing this stuff, now it has vanished. Anyone know the story? Discontinued due to poor sales?
