$1,000.00 to put P.S. in my 67 Barracuda?

With the Mopar Ps box, you can swap in reaction springs to dial in as much or as little, assist, as you like. You don't have to live with super boost. And you can turn the pump down, too.

Going from a manual box to a ps box, the double D shaft can be collapsed into the existing column with no adverse effects that I can see; except that the stump is now 2 inches closer to your chest. But that too can be changed.
The biggest penalty is the extra weight directly over the front wheels. Which I solved with 1.03 bars and a big swaybar.
Is PS worth it? Well just try doing parking lot tricks without it. I couldn't/wouldn't be without it; but I also couldn't/wouldn't put up with the over-assisted stock system. The spring kit IIRC was less than $20C in 1999 when I played with it. I don't get guys who can modify their engines, but are scared to take a PS box apart; it ain't rocket-science. Just do it!
Crap; if you lived next door, you could come over and fill your trunk with what you need for cheap. 'Course if you need it to work like mine, lol, it's gonna cost a lil more.

Interesting, 2nd comment on how bad the power steering was bad ...
The general concensus of Mopar PS back in the day was it lacks road feel, and that is my opinion of it also. Driving down the open road with a MS car hs always been great to me, yes it an be a struggle in town driving specially with a BB, but back 20 year s ago when I had tons of BB B bodies I still preferred Manual Steering.
I admit I had no idea the PS box could be worked to reduce.

That's what I started with, but it looks like just putting the new panels on would be a better end result. They cut into the flange on the firewall also so that need patched etc.. Have you suffered through this also? Thanks for asking!

AMD has the flanges....available thru Summit.

Just tryin'to help

Do you have to still change the steering shaft if you use the Borgeson?

I believe is comes with an adapter for either length Column. There’s a member here that sells the package kit. I’ll look him up

AJ not sure if I missed it, but what set up do you have on your 68?

I have a 68 Barracuda, with a 70 Duster K-member, 73 Swinger steering, a slanty Saginaw pump on 340 brackets, and a Large diameter PS box from an unknown source.
The column is an original console shift/manual steering box from the 68 slanty donor-car. I just dropped the bottom end on a concrete floor to shear the nylon retaining pins, then carefully lifted it up so the DD shaft didn't fall out.
I took the box apart resealed it and added a couple of extra reaction discs. About a week later, I took it down and added another disc. I seem to remember adding another one later in the summer but not sure; that was in the early 2000s.
And then I installed a thick foam-clad 13" period steering wheel.Maybe a Grant.
My alignment specs are 3.5* caster, 1/2* neg camber, toe as felt right, and I spent the better part of a day fixing the bump-steer/camber sweep that was introduced by the lowered ride height and Moog problem-solver upper bushings.
I had to set the on-center just right, to avoid early boost.
Now it steers similar to a standard box, just faster, and parking is a non-issue.

That's a rip off. You can probably trade someone straight across for that swap. Wildcat pricing is off by 20 years.

I have a complete ps set up less the column off my 70 440 duster. Pump(still full of fluid), hoses, box and big block brackets. I'm in central Pennsylvania if you're interested. Heavy to ship I bet. PM me if ya like

I feel that I have to speak up for old fat lazy guys ( my demographic). I love my power steering! Wouldn’t live without it!

67 no, 68-69 yes. you have the 625 lb 383?
No, I never had a 383, 440 when I bought it. I feel your pain on the inner fenders, mine are chopped up for headers too.I never liked the design of the original manifolds either.

If you're doing all this work, you should also replace the rag joint with a real universal joint, which Borgeson can also supply. You don't need a different steering shaft, as all you need to do is shorten the original one. Borgeson supplies pretty decent instructions with their kits.

Isn't the '67 a one year only idler arm? Might think about swapping the K frame if your this far into it.
