1965 Dart GT "Charger 273"

-
Hi 65dartcharger, Is it you who is maintaining a registry of A bodies? I am new to the site and love the enthusiasm. I inherited my parent's Charger Dart. Yes, One owner. I remember I was 5 years old, riding in the back and trying to hold between the bucket seats when my Dad punched it. Caught me off guard so I went a flyin'. I guess that's when I got hooked on Muscle Cars. Wondering where my VIN stands with respect to earliest build. L455143471. Thank you, ChargerKG
Hi there and congrats! Your car is number 23 in the registry of factory built car. Of the 23 cars found 5 is convertibles! Then there is another 13 "kit-cars" all hardtops.
Check if the owners manual is still there. On the last page you'll see region, dealercode, dealer and city. Would be great to add that info.

Your car has a scheduled assemble date of Januay 20, 1965. I'll make a decoding of the fendertag for you. Any pictures would be great. I like the white vinylroof. 6=6 first row with white and gold interior just as mine, I just don't have a vinylroof!

Not sure if this is unusual. The Closed Crankcase Ventilation system for a California Charger 273. Maybe special breather caps and air cleaner. 1965 273 Dart GT with '66+ heads and a Edelbrock Streetmaster 318 intake only mods. Pic maybe in prior reply.

That is factory C.A.P. Cleaner Air package on all Dart Chargers!

I somehow missed the last few posts here. Ulf has your fender tag decoded already but I inverted your tag for you. It's much more legible than the front side.

she has been sprayed a couple of times from not so expensive or considerate body shops and is a much paler yellow than the correct Ditzler..will be corrected though. Last registered 1999. Waiting for my Walmart whitewalls.

Hi, I recently purchased this 1965 Dart GT Convertible and was wondering the production numbers on a 4 speed Convertible with the 273/4 Dart charger motor?
It looks like there was a total of 3000 4 speed cars hardtop and convertible. Any one have a breakdown on total convertible production?
Posting pix of VIN and Fender-tag.
Thanks for any help

Thought I lost this tag but found it today and put it back on the car. 6265FenderTagDecode.pdf (earlycuda.org) Found this decode link for early Cudas and it tells a story of how the tags were screwed on the cars with only one screw while primered and pryed up so that a line inspector could make sure it matched the build going on. Common practice at Lynch Road plant, optional at others. Mine has all the signs of this procedure with a corner still primered and the bend missing the paint from fatigue. LA plant guy had crimped his mark in it. A "G" in the void area. Amazing the stuff that keeps me amused having no responsibility. Still trying to learn what the 9 means under the 0 on the first line. The only mystery left Sherlock.

1. At this point it's unknown if the parts were in the trunk. But since there is some cars that have other colors then pale yellow and even 270 series my guess would be that the kits were ordered separately. It's even Dartchargers that were "produced" at Hamtramck.

2. All factory Dartchargers were built at the LA plant. Some of the dealer kitcars were prodeced in Detroit.

3. The kits included the badge for the front fenders and the dash. There were two option on wheels. You could order the Cragar S/S wheels with polished aluminium center and chromed ring as factory Dartchargers or you could order the car with full chromed wheels.

4. The factory Dartchargers I have in my registry were produced from September 1964 to mid March 1965. The kit cars from November 1964 to May 1965. Remember that the yellow paint was not official until March of 1965. Late March 1965 Chrysler released the go/go package Darts and the ones I have are produced from March 1965 to June 1965. For the go/go package any engine was availible!!!! So my best idea is to check the date on the fendertag first. Send me a pm with vin, date andso no and I might have it in my list.

5. Starts with 70 or 06.

6. All LA cars starts with L455 in the vin number.

7. Do you have any pictures of the car?

Right now there is 34 cars

34 cars? Known in a registry?

I had an early build black car from the St. Louis plant
Mine was black with the white seats and gold carpet. No badges. Don’t remember if it was in the registry. Auto, not 4-speed. It was a Saturday night racer in Arkansas ( George Rays in Paragold with the gray primer and no hood). I like the 66 taillights for the street with third brake light (tip from slant-six Dan) went with the later ‘73 v-8 dart disks with the 14” wheels. First photo with small bolt pattern rally’s. When it was painted, added a matching notch in rear valance for duals but never did it. Currently black interior with Sebring seats. I was building while Ulf was restoring his show winner.
