1965 Dodge Dart Charger

-
Keith! You are so right, the vacuum reservoir were the same from 1964 to 1966 for all A-bodies.

Today I started to tear apart the brake booster. I found same old brake fluid from the 60ies, some rustwater!!! and some spiders! Now I know why the brakes wasn't so good when I bought the car.

Glass beaded the most of the parts and will finish tomorrow. I have one part of the piston inside but I wonder were it's possible to buy the rubber O-ring inside. Any ideas out there?

Does any FABO member have an NOS master cylinder for 1965 Dart w/drum brakes? I have an NOS one for 1965 B-body to trade with.

After another hour of glass beading the brake booster is done. Looks great. Now I need to start the assembly of it too. Found out that the old piston was shoot but I have an NOS one but I need the piston ring made in rubber for it too. Found out that the hose connector to the brakle booster has two paint spolts in pink!

I'm looking for the following parts for the brake booster;

Piston ring in rubber
Gasket between the two halfs
Gasket to the firewall

Any help is gladly appriciated.

Did some painting today and now it starts to look better. I even found out that I bougt the rubber seal years ago.

But I need to found out about the master cylinder!

Picture two is showing master cylinder from 1964 Dart w/power brakes, no bolt holding the piston in place and seven digit partnumber underneath.

Picture three is showing master cylinder from 1965 Dart w/o power brakes, bolts holding the piston in place and seven digit partnumber underneath.

Picture four is showing NOS master cylinder for 1965 Dodge Coronet w/power brakes. Bolts are holding the piston in place.

Now the question is;

What type of cylinder should I use? THe diameter on the brake cylinders rea the same, the pistons are the same. The only thing different is the rod. In the partscatalog is that the only difference in style?

Any help is more then welcome.

OK, after some work today and painting the brackets and linkage is ready for assembly. I did some checking on the brake booster and I need to replace the one closest to the bracket due to to much pitting. But sure looks good.

NOS master cylinder for 1965 Dodge Coronet w/power brakes.

That's correct for your '65 Dart with power brakes, too:

As for the piston seal: I suggest you grab a NOS booster rebuild kit p/n 2075 001 from Valley Vintage Auto Parts, then duplicate as many of the O-rings and seals as you can with nice new ones from www.smallparts.com .

Glad you scored the NOS hood catch on eBay...I will keep an eye out for more NOS goodies!! :happy7:

Today I did the steering head for the steering box. It looks like NOS. I added it to the box and painted it.

The paint on the car was as this paint man told me. Look at the picture. Red primer, green primer and then yellow paint. Now I know for sure.

Painted the NOS pitman arm too and now it looks great.

I assembled all the parts to the steering box and painted it. Now it looks like it should. Haven't tighened the bolts for it in the K-frame but all do that tomorrow.

The brake boster halfs are glass beaded again so now I will paint it tonight to see where the surface needs to be sanded down so it will be smoother. I have searched for 21 years for NOS halfs so I do the next best I guess. Hopefully it will turn out good.

The pedel bracket was rustfree but dirty. I need to take through the acid bath as well as the pedal and the clamps for the wire and wiring harness.

The acceleratorbracket was pretty ok but needs to be glass beaded to look good. Then a new black phosphate finish.

The front cover of the brake booster was a totally mess. To much pitting. Under the work I found some date codes. The first one is from a 1964 Dart GT and the next one V2 is from my car. Meaning is unknown at the moment.

There is still way much work on the front cover........!

Finally I did the painting on the front cover on the brake booster. Should be good I think!

Continued with some glass beading. This thing is really killing me. Yez how many small parts there is on a car.

Find some interesting stuff. The horn relay has stamped part number and date code. This one is from week 51 of 1964. Should be good to a
January 27th assembled car.

Packed all the small stuff today for new finish in US.

It seems that all power brakes A-bodies from 1964 to 1966 had the horn relay mounted on the brake booster bracket.

By the way I need to find a new horn relay. Any NOS ones out there? Actually I just need to change the inside. The date coded cover will get a new finish.

I cleaned the bolt and found a NOS retainer for holding the piston inside the master cylinder. I also found out that I need to get me a new master cylinder cap. My has to much pitting incl the bolt too and that will show up when it get the black/gray phosphate finish. So if someone has a cap without pitting and a bolt in great shape I will by it right off.

The paint on the brake booster looks great. Now I just need to get that kit from my friend Al at Valley Vintage.

Tonight my friend stopped by to drop of the rest of the Cragars. He had them split so now they are ready for new chrome. They will do good on my convertible.

You have mentioned several times that you send parts to the USA for plating. Would you mind telling me where you are getting the work done?

In the mean time. I'll keep my eyes open for any NOS 65 Dart parts.

I use a small company in Ohio. They do great jobs. Thanks for looking for NOS parts for me. Takes alot of time too.

I did start to get rid of the bolt holding the rear resonator to the frame. I need to drill it out!! BUT, where do I find new brackets to hold the resonator? I have a new screw but the bracket?

Any help is gladly appriciated.
